    Hello all knitters

Hope some of you can help

I knit this cardigan for my granddaughter and it turned out fairly nice.

    http://www.only-knitting.co.uk/Items/sd-2259?&caSKU=sd-2259&caTitle=Sirdar%20Childrens%20Knitting%20Pattern%20-%20Cardigans%20-%202259

Problem is, the hem {5 rows of rib} keeps turning up......
the way you might fold up a cuff if that makes sense.

I have tried pinning it out, gentle steam ironing and nothing has worked
    Any suggestions?

    Many Thanks

i bought 4 huge cones of wool at a charity shop at weekend. spent hours debating trying somehow to think up a way of working out how many feet would equal a 50g wool so i dont get half way through and run out. then as they were so big and only wanted a vest size thing thought i would just go for it. problem is all 4 are very thin so will have to combine strand of cones together to come close to dk. but test gauge will sort thickness out. what is bothering is that as i combine and roll in to easy to use balls there is a really musty smell coming off them. so do i hold nose knit and then wash before wearing hoping for best as no washing instructions or is there a way of just washing the balls of wool before i even begin the knitting bit???

I would knit then wash, especially if its acrylic. If it's wool then go for washing first, as it might not be modern 'no shrink' wool. Wind into hanks about 12 inches long, tied at intervals to stop it get tangled. That's how I would proceed anyway.

As a second thought, as it's so fine it's probably acrylic so I'd go with the 1st option. Fine acrylic would tangle so badly it will be much easier to wash a garment.

I'd knit a test swatch and then wash that to see if it changed at all. That may also give you an idea of how much yarn it'll take.

If you don't know anybody to give you a helping hand, ask in your local wool shop if they have classes or can recommend anybody. Ask in the library if there's a local group.

    Check out Stitch n !!!!! http://stitchn!!!!!.org/

Don't know why that happens! It's Stitch n B (rhymes with Stitch) - perhaps it's blocked as a rude word here.

thanks, will try that. after putting 2 strands together it is still very thin so have now put 3 which is much more like a dk, only problem being all 4 cones are different sizes so who knows when i will run out and at how strategic a time it happens. it is getting in knots very easily and am now wondering whether buying it was a good idea at all. have just had a look at spiders crochet blanket and i have one the exact same that i am doing. i made a huge square one years ago while a child and used my pocket money to save for a ball of wool. then made couple more as i got older for elderly relatives but they were the ones where you went around and around. this time i really am just using leftover wool and decided to go in stripes, is defintely at least a king size width wise and about 8 inches long so far. but as you say not very mobile. i have 5 projects all on the go at the moment as i have periods of knitting like a mad woman when i never even broke to cook a meal and would then go years without picking up a needle. i think this time i dont think i will stop for a while as i have so many requests as well as staring some squares for one of the other threads i have read so am very busy and after finding a great website for cheap wool (delivery expensive though) have lots of wool to keep me busy. am loving looking at all yours pics and wish i was as good as that, but with the net available now maybe i can learn new techniques. my main problem has and still does keep me from knitting many actual clothes. which is i usually somehow manage to follow a pattern and scramble through any new stitch but i can decrease and keep pattern correct so have to do things like moss or rib etc which is not a great look for a jumper. with the new wools now self stripe etc they would look better but if only i could learn that there would be no stopping me. anyway enough of a waffle happy knitting week everyone, hugs to all that need them

    hi fellow knitters,
not been around these parts for a few months or so due to life circumstances etc, one of my DIL'S has asked me to knit her a pair of fluffy socks, i have looked around for suitable yarn but i am not making any progress so i am wondering if any one has any ideas about what would constitute fluffy yarn?
    thanks
