Feeling a bit sore still as all the bruising has come out around my jawline, so I've had a quiet day after going to my Craft Group this morning. A friend there did a crocheted edging on a shrug for me.

I came home and watched a Youtube video and manged to do the second one myself!

Not perfect, but not too bad for a first attempt. Need a bit more definition between the shells I think. Although I did a slip stitch as the video said, it was a bit loose and I had to stitch between each shell afterwards.
    Any advice from crocheters?

I have decided on the Jamiesons wool for a fairisle jacket. There are ten colours in the pattern but I'm not too keen on the colour combination. It's easy if you can go to the wool counter and actually put them together to try them out, but ordering online makes it difficult to visualise what they'd look like together.

Basically, I want a background colour with 9 others and need to be able to see the probable result before shelling out for the wool. Anyone know of an online tool for picking colours?
The problem is that looking at the colours on-line they just might not look the same! It will also be hard to see what they will look like in the pattern, by just sitting balls side by side! Can you determine if you like some of the shades used in the pattern and maybe just substitute a couple ? Sometimes even one shade change can make a huge difference!

Well I am a crocheter, although not been one for that long (doing crochet socks for the first time just now)...perhaps a couple of years, youtube/self taught really. I think your shells are fine tbh, in fact nice. Re the slip stitch what size hook did you use/what ply of yarn ? Could be you need to use a smaller hook for the yarn or pull slightly tighter ? Or could be you just need practice. Perhaps someone with more experience can help more.....

I hope someone can help me.

I am knitting this cardigan which has this six row pattern.

    R1: All knit.
    R2: All purl.
R3: K1 * yfwd skpo k1 kt tog yfwd k1 repeat fom * to end.
    R4: All purl.
    R5: K2 * yfwd s2kpo yfwd K3 repeat from * ending last repeat with K2 instead of K3.
    R6: All purl.

I have got to the stage of shaping armholes where I had to cast off 4 sts at beginning of next 2 tows then dec 1 st at each end of next row and the 5 following alterate rows 65 sts.

I'm stuck on which part of the pattern on row 1 I should start off with having gotton rid of some of my stitches.

    Can someone help out?

I think I know what you mean - but I could have the wrong end of the needle :rotfl::rotfl:If you are losing part of a pattern repeat it makes it hard to know where to start the next one, is that it?
I would probably chart out the bit that was bothering me - I much prefer charts to written instructions. If in doubt lose the part pattern repeat at the end and knit a couple of plain stitches - it'll make sewing in the sleeves later on easier anyway if you have a solid edge. HTH

Hi Knittingnelly, yes as I've cast off at the beginning of two rows (R1 & R2) I'm trying to work the pattern into the next row (R3) that starts with the pattern. I've tried going through the pattern as if the stitches are still there to try and work out what stitch comes next but seem to be one stitch out.

I'm now thinking that maybe I need to start with the K1 before the K2 together but knit all three stitches together.

Might just have to have a play around and try and figure it out.

  • I aiways think pattern writers must have an evil glint in their eye when they say "dec x on rows a,b and c and then continue in pattern" grrrrrrrrrrr!!! Hope it works out OK

Hope my latest project is in this quick post. Every time I go to do normal reply, I get the "you must log in" screen, even though I'm logged in. Happens now and then.

Hope you are all well. Love the tops Cuddles, super hat Orkney. NJ xx
