knittingnelly and cuddles - hope you both feel better soon.
Second sixth sock is growing. Had a delay in finishing off little cardie. Two balls of King Cole Splash were enough for the last one I knitted. I have done this one identical in row counts/size etc (do me a blue one nanny), and after sewing raglans, picking up for collar and first front border, didn't have enough to finish the second border:mad: so off to town for another ball. Did pick up some nice buttons for 6p each so that did offset the extra ball a bit. Oh, and of course I wafted about in the sunshine for a bit. Cafe culture watching the world go by. So not a bad day in all.
Bit more gardening today (little and often, respect the back). Apparently the bay tree is my next pruning job, I have had complaints that the shed/aviary is disappearing behind it, and OH likes to watch his beloved budgies from sofa position! The cordless trimmer is charging.......0 -
Ooh Berriedale Braes..only 7 weeks before we're driving up them again!! :j
We're coming over to Orkney for 5 days too...can't wait...haven't been there for three years or so, far too long!!!That's the problem when you are living south of Birmingham...it's a long trip to Caithness!! Thankfully we can stop with MIL in Fife on the way up and then back down...but still over 600 miles each way  Folks just don't realize how log this country is!!:o
Been doing a bit of scarf knitting recently...also been cross-stitching, sewing and patch-working..quite the busy bee!!
Love the socks Orkney...found a few balls of Regia in a drawer, so might get going with a pair of socks soon.
Up far too late again, need to catch up on sleep...night, night x
When in Orkney remember to visit both the Quernstone Wool shops in Stromness if you get a chance- the lady that owns them is nice and stocks all sorts across the both shops, and lots of nice other things too!
Well I am up but tired, DS woke up with ear-ache last night and we were awake from about 2.40 to 5am....we lamb finally got some sleep dosed on calpol and is still asleep. Might knit today but only if not too tired and risk impaling myself on needles!!Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

Awww, bless, hope the earache has improved:), one of mine was inclined to that in the middle of the night.
Now he keeps us awake when he's had a few too many and crashes up and down his attic stairs all damn night :mad:

I am knitting this cardigan which has this six row pattern.
R1: All knit.
R2: All purl.
R3: K1 * yfwd skpo k1 kt tog yfwd k1 repeat fom * to end.
R4: All purl.
R5: K2 * yfwd s2kpo yfwd K3 repeat from * ending last repeat with K2 instead of K3.
R6: All purl.
I have got to the stage of shaping armholes where I had to cast off 4 sts at beginning of next 2 tows then dec 1 st at each end of next row and the 5 following alterate rows 65 sts.
I'm stuck on which part of the pattern on row 1 I should start off with having gotton rid of some of my stitches.

Am a bit hesitant about diving in with an answer, as we have been out for a few bevvies......!
But, my first response would be -
Presumably you know how many stitches you had on before the armhole decreases? I'm guessing it's an odd number.
Take 65 (what you have on now) away from that figure. Divide it by two. The figure you now have is how many you have lost from each side of your pattern row 1. Can you now work your way in from the start of the pattern row and see where you are?0 -
OrkneyStar wrote: »Look on e-bay, look on ravelry ? £2.10 a ball is cheap for the yarn you mention, up here the Shetland stuff is more like £3.15/ball and we live in Orkney (just down the road from Shetland!). I now realise why traditional Orkney/Shetland knits can be so expensive! I suppose about £60 for the whole thing seems expensive but then you would have to pay that much, or more, to buy a jumper knitted in a similar yarn I think.
E-bay does have 2-ply yarn in cones, much cheaper, but it is not Shetland, and you would have to check the wool/acrylic/anything else content. Also a lot of that is cones and as you need lots of colours that might not be any use! You might find folk selling oddments but then you might not get enough/all the colours you need.
I have decided on the Jamiesons wool for a fairisle jacket. There are ten colours in the pattern but I'm not too keen on the colour combination. It's easy if you can go to the wool counter and actually put them together to try them out, but ordering online makes it difficult to visualise what they'd look like together.
Basically, I want a background colour with 9 others and need to be able to see the probable result before shelling out for the wool. Anyone know of an online tool for picking colours?0 -
Ladydee Jamiesons will send you a wool card with samples on if you ask
