Good luck with the baby :)

I'm sure you'll be fine with knittingh. I only started less than a year ago as I wanted to knit for my Grandson :rotfl:

Hi, i am also popping in to say 'HI'! I can knit but only a long piece of knitted item! I was never taught to increase or decrease, just to keep going! Lol! I've always wanted to learn to make something out of my knitting apart from a knitted cloth! I have a 4 yr old DD and 21 months old DS and would love to be able to knit them cute little bits for them to keep and treasure! My goal is to make these for Easter for all my nephews, niece and kids! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-HAND-KNITTED-EASTER-CHICKS-CREME-EGGS-/400191852292?pt=UK_Crafts_Knitting_Crochet_EH&hash=item5d2d4b0f04#ht_500wt_1156

Hope i can learn... I have the pattern instruction but can't read the pattern terms... I am slowly learning but have so many questions. I think i need to get the new knitting mag to learn too. Hoping i can reach my little goal and maybe be able to pop in here from time to time. :)

Hello all - I am about to go and buy the new knitting magazine advertised to see if I can learn how to knit. I cant bake or sew or do anything remotely crafty - but Im willing to learn! My baby is due today and all my friends mums have made me knitted items, but I would like to learn for when baby is a little older! Just thought I would pop in and say hello and hopefully I will be seeing much of you all soon ;)

Hi Sally, do you remember what the mag is called? I saw it advertised on the telly but i got distracted by the kids. Is it out on sell already? 99p i think it was but do you know how much it was normally? Good luck with your little bundle! :)

This is the one advertised on tv tonight I think.

    http://www.artofknitting.co.uk/

Will be £2.99 and you`ll probably have to order it from the newsagent or subscribe directly as shops usually only take in the first few editions. There will be LOTS of parts and it will be very expensive if you buy them all, might be better to invest in one good knitting book.

Thank you, i think i will buy the 1st copy for 99p and then get a book. Can you recommend me a good step by step knitting for beginners book? A book with lots of pictures maybe? Lol! I need all the help i can get!

Can`t get to grips with it - not like knitting as I know and love.

The scarf yarn Lidl is selling at the moment is a cheaper version of can can.

Ami82 - have a look on amazon, they usually have a few books for beginners. I learned at school more years ago than I care to admit when I was about 6 or 7 and still love it.

Hello Sally and welcome. If you take to knitting it will give you hours of pleasure and somehow the rhythm of the clacking needles is very comforting.

    Congratulations on the baby.

I agree that you need to be careful about the expense of investing in a weekly mag. I know you get the yarn as well and that tends to keep you hooked. You need the next and the next issues to be able to knit the next squares and if you don't buy them then you have a few squares knitted but not enough to do much with except maybe a few coasters/mats or a cushion. I think I would go with the idea of a book - there are several around and you could also borrow one from your local library. There are also some good tutorials on the net and sometimes the videos work well because you can see the techniques better than you can from a book. If you go down this route you can buy yarn cheaply from the likes of Lidl and Aldi or from the pound shops or charity shops.

Whatever you decide to to - have fun. That's what it's all about!!!!
