Hello again - Have any of you bought the wool from Lidl's today, it's just I was gonna pick some up on my way home from work. I was thinking of knitting gloves, scarves and hats with it?

Thanks for all the links to the online wool shops - I'm having a nightmare trying to find a wool shop near me. There used to be one's in Glasgow but they've all closed - in fact the last proper wool shop I managed to find was in Kirkcaldy. If anyone can point me in the direction of one I would be grateful - I like to be able to feel the wool cos some of the blends give me the heebies - don't like the feel of them :rotfl:

PepPop - where about are you? There is a nice wee wool shop in Haddington, but she won't sell you patterns unless you buy the wool to go with them. I always think Hobbycraft is expensive, but maybe that's just me. In Dunbar there is a newsagent that sells a bit of wool - mostly King Cole. In Portobello there is also a wee wool shop. I also like to see the wool - gives you a better idea of the colour as well as the feel.

I'm sure someone will be along later with more locations - maybe we should start our own directory and organise field trips!

If any of you live in or around Newark, Notts, there is a charity shop, thinks it's Age Uk, opposite Boyes, and they have a huge selection of Wendy wools at £1.25 a ball. They were all in a wool shop rack, so not sure if this is going to be a regular item, but looked good quality.

OOOoooooh thanks for that gillian ~ I'm just up the road so will have a shufty next time I'm there

I have a virus on my laptop

    BE WARNED

Its called Windows Disk Scan and a warning flashes up telling you to defrag as you are short of disc space. The defrag identifies a problem with your hard drive.
It then asks you to do an advanced defrag.
To do that you need to pay for a programme devil.gif
I am so annoyed as it looks very genuine.
Have tried googling for help, but the programme is not in any of the places mentioned, so can't find it to delete it

cuddles put a question on the techie board and someone there should be able to help you - we had one like this in my work and it took me two solid days to get rid of it. Can you get into your antivirus program to run a scan?

I know this is a bit late in saying this but it might help someone else... if you see any small icons next to the small clock in the bottom corner of your screen, hover your mouse over it DO NOT click anything and a small description box should appear - if it doesn't it is a virus waiting to be activated - run a full scan immediately to get rid of it.

Just a quickie as supposed to be doing housework :(.
Hope you get the comp. probs sorted cuddles123
I resisted the Lidl wool (don't need it) but have fun PepPop- looking forward to seeing what you make! Lidl wools often have patterns enclosed in the packaging so have a look inside (if you haven't already ;)).

Someone on Ravelry started a UK knitting shops directory on google maps:

    http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?msa=0&msid=111287046617801714876.0004367756018bc4ced50&ll=52.670296,-1.198497&spn=4.817425,14.611816&z=7&om=1

It can take a couple of minutes for the flags to show up on the map because there are so many! To add shops you know of that aren't featured on the map go to the British Knitters group on Rav and read the 3rd paragraph of 'Group Details':

This is beautiful - a real labour of love. How long did it take?

    Sue

Thank you everyone for the lovely comments on the shawl. I am pleased with how it turned out. It is off in the post tomorrow on its way to my mother-in-law.

It took some time to be honest. The pattern is a 60 row repeat and it took me about 6-7 hours to do 60 rows (slow going as the wool is so fine). There were about 10 repeats of the 60 row pattern plus the start and the beginning bits. Also, I was a lot slower when watching a film rather than listening to the radio :)

I have knitted this twice before in cotton for both myself and as a pressie and this was much quicker to knit in 4ply cotton.

I keep track of the rows with pen and paper and lots of notes.
