Sagaris, sorry I didn't realise they were plastic and yes I agree metal are better. The ones I have bought recently are metal and the end stop is shaped like a cat's head. I've always knitted on fairly short needles but caught the 'children's needles' bug from a neighbour when I saw her using them and they're fantastic, especially for doing baby clothes.
I hope you find yours, shame to have to buy new.

Go to bed you lot, you've done enough knitting and talking to-day! ... Marie
:rotfl:
you're probably right, but its so nice to share knitting stories!! Actually you're all so industrious you're making me feel really lazy - I'm part way through a pair of knitted slippers (love them for the evenings, so comfy!) and found the wool out ready for some knitted squares. I'd like to do a shawl too, got a nice freebie pattern that's calling me and some really soft wool from the market.
I spent a while this afternoon downloading freebie washcloth patterns too.
... I sound like a real old granny with my wooly slippers and shawl!! :rotfl:... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

O dear Marie, you sounded just like my mother last night, I didn't dare post any more for fear of your wrath but you see I couldn't just go to bed because I had to see how my wool was going to work out before I visit the wool shop today.
The ball of Sirdar Confetti I bought last week to complete a baby jacket is now not going to be needed after all, so perhaps I will exchange it today for a different colour (plus two extra) to do yet another jacket in the next size.
Not really for this as a) I don't want to spend the money and b) it won't reduce my yarn stash so maybe I'll take a credit note instead. Trouble is if I have a credit note for £1.49 I'll probably end up putting it to another £10 or so of wool in the near future. I shall need nailing down when the winter Sale starts in January. Ummmm, don't know what to do
I'm just so keen to attack my stash and do a patchwork baby blanket, think I'll start one anyway for 'quiet moments' ha ha:rotfl:

Hi all, finished my second dishcloth and am on with a knitted bag.
SeaKay, that was great service for the wool, how many stitches are you now up to on the scarf?
I have just started the cast off row! (Literally, 4 repeats of the cast offpattern completed.) Getting quite excited now. We are doing a present run on Friday, and I am now confident that I can get it finished and wrapped by then.
I was going to do some dishcloths for Christmas presents, but am out of time now. However, I think that I might do some for part of my sister's birthday present in February.0 -
Well, I've done it. I've knitted the first square of a baby blanket today. I'm not sure whether it feels like I've laid the foundation stone of some great edifice, or if I've put the first nail in my coffin as I really do have quite enough knitting to be getting on with. Needless to say I only intend this to be a (VERY) long term project, there are no deadlines and it's always nice to have something that can be picked up at odd minutes which doesn't need thinking about. I think I will leave it by the phone so that I can rattle a few rows off during chatty phone calls.
I have also bought some more Sirdar Confetti today to do yet another jacket, this will be number four.
I'm not sure whether all this means my stash is going down or up at the moment. I was told today that my local wool shop may have to close in the spring so I shall be glad of my stash when that goes. Just have the January Sale to live through. Anyone got a spare ball and chain?

Hello everyone!
I've just started knitting and am half way through my first pink fluffy scarf for my sisters birthday next year in October.. (yes, forward planning I know!)..
I have some wool coming for a scarf for my brothers birthday in January (wrong way around I know haha)
What I was hoping for was some help or advice on making beanies, hats and socks.. was thinking of next xmas for matching gifts etc..
I'm a bit broke after going bankrupt... so looking for any help I can..
Sorry if there is already loads of advice in the thread, it's so long I havn't been able to look through it yet..
Thanks, GemBSC Member 155

Hi Gem, are you looking for patterns? I have loads of freebie socks patterns, and can point you in the direction of more if need be. what sort are you looking for? if you need something specific someone on here may be able to help.
this thread has gone an incredibly long way in a short while, its great that so many are involved
Edited to say I have freebie patterns for other stuff too, dishcloths/washcloths (make nice gifts as part of a small hamper), shawls and slippers (I can vouch for these being cosy and comfortable)l... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

I seem to be having one of those days!!
I'm trying to find a knitting pattern to download for the long hats you see people wearing, they come down your back and some have little bells on the end. My Q is do they have a specific name?
Many thanks for any help. I've just started knitting again after a recent op laid me up.PinkPunkBird
