Found a shrug thing that only takes one 50g ball of wool yesterday...started it with eyelash wool last night, not a good idea as I cant see shaping so am going to have to use something else...will help my backlog I think

Hope that you are at least making him pay for the wool - your ds sounds a bit old to be needing help making his pocket money stretch!

Perhaps tooties has a large enough stash of yarn to be able to knit the cardi's - I know I have.

How big is everyone else's wool stash? I don't think I will live long enough to use up all mine.

When I moved house, I gave my mother and her craft group three black binbags of assorted wool (including about 20 balls of mohair type in various colours - knit 2/sneeze 2/drop 2!!!). Think they all knit for various charities around where they live including an animal rescue centre and a prem baby unit!
  • When I get large bags of oddments I crochet blankets and they go to charity, but I have whole packets of wool which I buy at Sale price to 'come in, some day' and they will - if I live long enough. If not someone else will have to send them to charity.:D

just to clarify my ds is 18 yrs old and on a very low apprectice wage out of which he insures and drives his car in addition to paying full board. the twins are his friends and they are dad is 17 and mum is 16. i have a huge stash of wool and im only too happy to help, having brought up 6 ds's on one low wage for years im not happy to sit back and watch youngsters struggle when i can ease their burden ever so slightly. i would have been over the moon to receive a knitted gift (or even a second or third hand one) for my brood when times were bad.
not that im ranting or even on a soap box it just that ds works hard for what little cash he gets and im simply happy to help as i love to sit and knit.
not wishiing to upset or offend anyone
    kindest regards

That is so thoughtful of your son to consider this young couple and their babies! I'm not surprised that you obliged when he asked. I've tried to help out young couples in the past when I've known that they've got tinies and not much money (only when I know that they're really trying to get things right though).
