I'm just off to catch a train to visit my sister - I'm taking my scarf knitting with me (pattern courtesy of Whatatwit). This is the first time since Friday that I've been able to access the site, but I'll probably be away until Sunday or Monday now.
Not quite finished the hoodie for my niece but I am on the hood and just have to finish that and put some ribbing around it and it is done. It is just too huge to fit in with my other luggage so must wait for my return!

When I had finished it, I layed it out to admire my handiwork and Oooops -
no buttonholes. That'll teach me to knit when I am half asleep. No way could I undo it as the bands are now riveted on. I'm thinking that I will just sew the buttons on and poke them through the knitting. Has anyone ever done this?

I know someone who knitted a lot but declared that she couldnt do button holes - she used to line up the fronts and pull a thread gently to make a little gap to fit the button through so it does work but dont think I'd recommend it for big buttons :D

    Bella,

I have often done this, as Rosieben says, just pull a thread a bit to open a small hole which will be fine for a button...not familiar with the yarn that you are using but if it is knitted on 4mm needles it will be easier than if on 3mm...Good luck

I've slowed down a bit at the moment - have been doing the dreaded sewing up of the five different things I had on the needles...and have started a jumper for myself. Pointless really, as I won't be able to wear it for a good while...by the time I finish it it won't fit me because I'M PREGNANT!!! Woohoo :j.

I knitted loads of things when DD was born, all in 'neutral' colours, so won't have to do so much this time....but you know what it's like, can't stay away from the baby things....plus my mum has been pestering me for things to knit for DD. Danger is, if I start her on baby things I'll have way too many.....

Hope everyone is well and not feeling the Christmas stress too much.
    Take care
    D.

Knitted on and off for years since i was about 12. The mohair jumper 80's craze. Seems to go in waves of about 6/7 year gaps. I started again about sept and am knitting a cardigan for DD. I also hate sewing up. Bought a debbie bliss book then went to a shop in Holmfirth near me and found books by Louisa Harding, bought the Miss Bea's Rainy day book and the patterns are fantastic for children, wish i'd seen this first. She does loads of other books too. they are available from rowan yarns,https://www.knitrowan.com and they were a lot cheaper than debbie bliss, spent a fortune on her wool though its fab and knits lovely. Don't know why people are worrying that baby hand knits are not fashionable my eldest DD went into next looking at hand knitted cardi's for my DGD. average price £18 and some were much more, also have seen them in GAP and online shops are selling them for a fortune. Have a look in your local knitting shop for labels thet have " mum knitted this" or "Gran knitted this" think they finish all our hard work off nicely. Whatatwit looovvve the scarf, excellent. Right i'm off now to finish Little DD cardi off before christmas she's 3 in Jan. Bit of an age gap 21 year's between eldest and youngest, with 3 other darling children in between looks like i had better practice knitting as i will be knitting for babies for a long time. Sorry post is a bit long got carried away

Blimey:eek:  thought i would see how much it is to go to one of the workshops on the rowan site to learn to crochet. £75 lunch and drinks included. Is it me, am i getting old or does that seem a fortune. Anyone local want to arrange a knitting crochet get together i will supply food lol and maybe learn to crochet:beer: .
