I've been busy too with my baby knitting. I now have two matinee coats, bonnets and bootees sets almost done, just a bit of last minute sewing up to do.
In case the babies are boys, I have one jacket complete except for buttons and one still on the pins.
The one waiting for it's buttons happened a bit of a disaster. Last week I was sitting up into the wee small hours to get it done. It is knitted in Sirdar Confetti (like snowflake with different coloured bits in) no trouble knitting it but picking up the bands with DK proved an absolute nightmare as there just don't seem to be enough rows of knitting to make the picked up stitches into. The end result was a bit loopy looking on the picking up so I oversewed it on the inside to neaten it and make sure the stitches were secure.
When I had finished it, I layed it out to admire my handiwork and Oooops -
no buttonholes. That'll teach me to knit when I am half asleep. No way could I undo it as the bands are now riveted on. I'm thinking that I will just sew the buttons on and poke them through the knitting. Has anyone ever done this? At least this way I can sew them on either side and it will do for either a girl or a boy, that's why it is still pending.
Not much time now, one baby is due tomorrow and the other any time now.
Happy knitting everyone,
Bella
Hi Bella
I've done that before! I got round it by making button loops
on the buttonhole side and sewing the buttons on the opposite side to correspond.KNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:

mioliere. Thanks, that's another great tip. I'v not made up the offending article yet as I am waiting to see if the baby is a girl or boy and will then put buttons on the appropriate side.
Wow, what a price those cardi's in Next. Good to see my hand knitting flying into the luxury class. But isn't that the case with anything hand made - much nicer than shop bought.
Those labels sound a good idea too. I have one or two which I had from a magazine some time ago, which say handknitted with love, must remember to stitch them in.
Today is D-day for one of the babies, just waiting for news and guess what, I've not finished knitting yet. Better get clicking.

Thanks to the dark evenings and the wind and rain, I have made great progress with the cropped bolero I am making for 15yr old DD. It's a Twilleys pattern, pure wool, random dyed yarn in pinky brown shades. I just have 2cm of rib on the collar to finish, so should be done this evening, and ready to sew up!
She was saying that she felt a bit guilty about the cost, but I said if she divided it by the number of hours pleasure that it has given me knitting it, then I'd be very surprised if it didn't prove much, much cheaper per hour than going to the cinema or whatever!
I have the yarn to make a pair of legwarmers for her next, and then I quite fancy one of the jumpers or a pair of gloves for myself. The book of patterns was quite dear, £6, but if I make several of them, I shall feel better about it.
re the cost of courses - my local fabric and knitting shop runs day courses for £20. May be worth asking a local shop.It is never too late to become what you were always intended to be0 -
Don't want to keep you all in suspense....baby is due on 11 June 08 - had dating scan today and found I'm a week further along than I thought!
Never mind...I've still got plenty of time to knit a couple of things (ha ha, won't just be a couple, I've loads of baby yarn to use up!!)...now to dig out those patterns...and don't bootees knit up really quickly?
Thanks everyone for your kind words.

Hi to knitters wherever you are.
serena - seems you are hoping for a long hard winter, but what better way to spend a winter evening.
Ishtar - Happy knitting 'while you wait' it makes the time go quicker.
tooties - you sound very industrious with all those goodies flying off your pins.
I am still waiting for news of the new arrivals, perhaps they are being really kind to me and giving me a bit more time as I still have a little way to go before everything is complete. Doing boy and girl options for 3 babies this year has been quite a bit of work, but I love it.

My nephew's second baby was born yesterday - he's only 4 1/2 lb! So off to dig out the premature baby knitting book I bought when his brother was born 2 years ago. He won't be out of hospital for a while as he has got breathing problems which they are still trying to sort out - so I might even have something finished for him to leave hospital in!:j Almost 2 stones gone! :j

Congratulations, Ishtar and best wishes for the future! I've recently got a new granddaughter and been knitting like crazy. Now Mr Ollie's sister's baby is due any day and the needles are at it again.
Also just finished a hooded aran jacket for Caitlin (5 weeks old), an aran sweater for DDS1's girlfriend's little boy (almost 3) and two balaclavas for DGSs 1&2!0 -
Wow there's some very busy knitters around.
One of the babies arrived today:j it's a girl so one of my matinee coat, bonnet and bootees sets will be wrapped up and ready to go. I will also sew the buttons (girls way) on the 'buttonhole-less' jacket and get that off too.
That just leaves me with the ribbons to sew on another bonnet and the bootees to do for another girly set and a blue hooded jacket in case the next one is a boy. Then I have a whole 500g bag of pink baby wool (I stockpile when the Sales are on) and will make some more girly things for later on. Never a dull moment!
