lovely socks lambanana, such a pretty colourloves to knit and crochet for others0

I finally have a finished project to show! Some socks knit for my friend at work's daughter. She gave me the money for the wool and I did the knitting. Normally I say no to knitting requests, particularly socks as it's a lot of time and I'm a bit of a selfish knitter and if I'm spending so much time knitting something I want it for myself
I agreed though as the daughter is lovely and my friend is retiring soon so it's not going to become a regular request. Also her daughter only has small feet so they didn't take too much work!!
The wool is XXL Trekking in Pink Vanilla socks weer 60 stitches on 2.5mm needles just plain old stockinette simplicity.
I know what you mean about wanting to have the finished item but it is nice to knit for others every now and then. I have knitted for mum, sis, DS, DH, niece- the good thing about children's things is they are quicker!
I have put my latest WIP on ravelry- back nearly finished already as being chunky wool it knits quick!Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

I have been an avid knitter for 15 years and I'll admit I have caught site of myself in the mirror whilst knitting in the past, and seen my head held in a most unflattering position(!) but now I am starting to look saggy under my chin
I haven't put on any weight suddenly but I do spend most evenings looking down at my current project - could this be the cause?0 -
I've popped over from the Cross Stitch Cafe :j to say hello
I'm sorry to say that I am a rubbish knitter in that I can just about do it but am rather hopeless. I want to make my own version of a pom pom scarf :j as can be seen in one of the high street shops at a stupid price ! and bought the wool etc (last xmas) and the pom pom makers from sew and So ! so thats one project for this winter ! I also want to make a Snood - can anyone point me in the direction of a really easy pattern ????? thank you0 -

There are quite a few on Ravelry - have you used the pattern search feature there? A very quick look found these:

...there are loads of others. I've given you the non-Rav links in case you're not a member, but it's a very good way to search for patterns all over the web.0 -
Those socks are lovely lambanana. I love knitting socks with variegated yarn so I can get away with ss.
Is anyone aware of a free pattern for Welly Warmers? I've tried Ravelry and there's a small charge for the patterns on there and the cupboard is bare at the moment! I did a google search and got some very strange things appearing!I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to breakMy attitude depends on my Latitude 49° 55' 0" N 6° 19' 60 W0 -
As I mentioned above, I am a complete beginner when it comes to knitting.... should I knit with bamboo needles or the old style aluminum ?
I have always knitted with aluminum but these bamboo needles intrigue me and I wonder if they are better ?0 -

It's really down to personal preference. I think most people prefer bamboo to the old aluminium ones, but some people really dislike it. I love the Knitpro nickel-plated needles, but some people find nickel irritates their skin. Wood is nice but I find it slows me down - the nickel-plated ones are nice and "slippy" and let me knit at a good speed. I also have a set of casein dpns, which look like plastic but are just lovely to knit with - very light, just enough flexibility and a lovely "warmth" to them.
If you can get to a good yarn shop or a local knitting group you might get the chance to try a few different things and see which you prefer.0 -

I would add that I have bamboo needles and I find them great - I find they are "slippy" enough for me. I would never go back to the aluminium. I read somewhere that they more you use the bamboo the better they get - something to do with the natural oils on your hands. So, I guess that it is down to personal taste. Why don't you ask someone if you could borrow a pair - you'll soon know if you like them or not. I would also say that I bought a full set for my mum and she loves them as well (and says that dad is no longer driven mad by the clickety click when he is trying to watch the telly!). :rotfl:0
