Hello again all - just wanted to update on my mohair wool trauma :) I finally won 2 balls on ebay which were not the same brand so I didnt hold out much hope. Anyway they arrived this morning and they were exactly the same so I can finally finish the last few lines of my cardi this evening :j Will probably use less than a quarter of one ball so if anyone needs a ball and 3/4s you know where to come :D

Thanks again for your help which I am sure I will need again very soon:)

Hope no-one minds if I come on to ask a question. I have tried searcing the thread but didn't find what I wanted. I haven't done much knitting for years but would like to make this

    http://www.canadianliving.com/crafts/knitting/aran_pillow.php

I remember seeing something similar as a kit in John Lewis last year.

When I used to knit there used to be wool shops on every high street but no longer. Where do I buy wool and needles? I don't want to spend a huge amount as it's only a small project.

    TIA

For needles I highly recommend charity shops, especially if you are not sure how much knitting you are going to do - normally they are about 50p a pair there but £3 in woolshops, you may also be able to pickup wool there too.
I buy my wool at a local shop but maybe someone can recommend an online supplier.
    good luck!

I would agree with Suzybloo but would say that out of my local charity shops, most of them don't stock knitting needles (elf'n'safety!) and those that do have them through the back and you have to ask specifically for them. Last time I was in you didn't have to ask about the golf clubs though, and I presume you could do some damage with them! :rotfl:
  • Hi,
Ebay or Dianas discount wool is quite cost effective. Or if you dont mind what you get then freecycle is a place I have managed to get some quite nice wool from over the years:j

Well I will certainly give it go when I finish but I have no idea how to post a photo:o

Thanks so much jan for your lovely post by the way and if you are ever in the same predicament let me know as I am now a complete ebay search and bid expert:rotfl:

mamam I have used knitting village a couple of times who were very good (sorry no links I think I am too new) and I can recommend ebay if you are willing to be patient and find a good seller.

I also use Hobby craft which are expensive for the popular wools but do often have good wool sale deals
on at this time of year. I just picked up some gorgeous fluffy scarf wool for 50p a ball :)

For anyone in Ireland, Lidl has loads of knitting and sewing stuff next Monday. I am sooo tempted!

I got seriously excited about this post, then realised (1) I don't live in Ireland, (2) I don't have any money and (3) I've been snowed in since last Wednesday!

Hopefully Scotland will follow Ireland in the next few weeks and we'll get the wool on offer then. I get their weekly e-mail and would have noticed if the knitting and sewing stuff had been on recently.

:D Sorry for getting your hopes up! I've a funny feeling England had the same offers a few months back - not sure if they do them in Scotland at different times but one good thing is they always seem to come around again.

I got quite excited myself but have told myself not to go mad as I can't afford it!

Oooh snowed in! Well I hope you have enough food and wool to keep you going! :)
