hi just thought id say hello, i'm 23 and im jut getting my MIL to teach me to knit, and golly gosh its hard! i hope it gets easier. It spurred me on because i recently purchased this:

    http://www.asos.com/Asos/Asos-Bow-Head-Band-Turban/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=1194687&SearchQuery=turban&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=20&sort=-1&clr=Oatmeal

i thought it was ok price until i was told she could have knitted it for a fraction of that price, after all it is only a band.

So decided i wanted to learn, only had half an hour this afternoon until i got cramp in my fingers! ouch!

In Kirkwall, '62 to '67, on Berstane Road, I had two years at Papdale Infant School. My dad worked in the Roads Dept for the council (which included the airstrips on all the islands, including those on beaches!!). Mum was a teacher at Stenness primary school, when she wasn't having my bro and baby sis. Most of my Mum's family are still round about Kirkwall, with one cousin in Dounby.

We had planned on popping over when we were staying with Dad in Caithness this summer, but DH had a nasty S&V bug, so DS2 and I spent more time sorting Dad's garden out!! One day we will make it back again...I have been known to pop over for the day from Gills, having a total of 4 hours in Kirkwall, but I usually manage to see a good dozen of the family! Dad always thinks I am mad when I do this!
:D Whereabouts are you OrkneyStar...on the mainland, or one of the islands? Oh I am getting home-sick again!!

I started with the Beanies for the Brave pattern, from Ravelry, then adapted it it for length and pin-size. If you search for Beanie in Ravelry, you get 145 pages, the Beanies for the Brave is part way down the first page. I went with the one DS2 fancied...as his was the first one I knitted...completely red, apart from 3 rows of black rib at the beginning - his college colours. I used thicker needles for him as he has a particularly big head! :rotfl:

Hello new to the board and wondering if anyone can help a very frustrated knitter :o

I have recently taken back up knitting after a couple of years and decided to finally start a mohair cardi that I had bought the wool for way back when. Anyway I am sure you can guess but I have come to the last few inches and have run out of wool

The wool is Hayfield 80% Luxury Mohair in black and was bought from Hobbycraft who now no longer sell it. I have searched lots of googled sites including ebay and not found it and wondered if any of you have any ideas of where I may get hold of the one elusive ball needed

Hope you dont mind my first post being a cry for help

Hi hun, I can't help in terms of a stockist, sorry...hopefully one of the wonderful ladies (and gents) on here may be able to?
But.... have you tried freecycle? You can ask for things on there, maybe a long shot, but you never know? Are you on Ravelry? I think there a couple of "swap shops" on there, so perhaps worth asking there too?
    Good luck x

    :A

I don't know whether to knit an amended 2nd version of the jumper I just finished... (amended = all one colour LOL, and a size smaller)
or whether to try something else now?
Just bought 4 balls of DenimUltra chunky multi knit in a nice oatmeal / brown colour, and don't know what to flippin' do with it again!
    I.....MUST.....STOP....BUYING....WOOOOOLLLLLL!!!!

Puzled- welcome! How about doing a search on Ebay in case someone else has some in their stash? Ravelry sounds a good idea - perhaps an appeal to all Ravellers to check their supplies...just in case!

    Good luck!

Thank you for your replies :)

Hunnybeanz - I will try freecycle good idea and have signed up for ravelry
jan65 - they do have some on ebay but sadly not in black but I will keep my eye out. Thanks

I feel this cardi will be the longest one ever taken to knit :)
I do have a back up project using wool that is still in its best before date lol so I am occupied whilst my quest continues.

Thanks again for your responses and if I ever do finish it I will post a picture so watch out over the next few years!!!

I have been doing the k3 on either end then either knitting or purling in the middle so I must be doing 18! Thanks anyway:A
It looks ok though. Have a new problem in that it is the knitted border ends are curling in. Will this stop when I have it off the needles do you think?
Thank god for you lot on here or I would have to wait a whole week before I go to sewing/knitting club:rotfl:
