Thanks OrkneyStar.... (can you just knit it for me haha) The needles just say 7 on them I have some 6mm and they are chunkier so I must have the wrong sizes in my bag. I would probably knit a baby shawl (if I could that is) with these 7's. Thanks for the guide, by the look of that I can get away with using the 6mm's.

Aw, dont be sorry about your pattern, I have bookmarked it and when I get a bit more confident I will have a go at that. My trouble is I dont know anyone in real life that knits, so I will be coming here for help. I learnt years ago from my foster mum and sadly she's passed away now, I wish I'd have listened more !

    Thanks again x
No worries, I think 6mm would be ok, might be a wee bit smallish- knit loose lol.
You could try https://www.knittingpatterncentral.com or ravelry as there may be other simple patterns on there.

Just a little stuck on this bit of pattern (tut sorry)

Where it says YO, does that mean put the yarn to the other side to what it is naturally falling due to the stich ie if I've done a purl I need to put it to the back, then do I slip a stich and put my yarn forward the purl another 2, so I probably will have 1 stich and a new one?

    Sorry if this sounds gobbledgook...

If you really cant knit very well, then practise drumming with the needles...

    I found this
Hi, I believe that first you pull the working yarn to the front of the work as if you are about to purl and then you slip a stitch, insert needle into stitch as if you are about to purl it, but don't, pull it off the left needle, it will be on the right needle now, and then you return the working yarn to the back of the work. I'm pretty sure that is how you sl 1 wyif.

  • I finished my jumper! (I'm a liar, I ned to sew in the sleeves, but essentially, it's done)
Looks a bit odd to me, can't put my finger on why though, tension is fine, stitches are all the same as pattern, perhaps the mixture of colour? Had to use two different colours as I underestimated the amounts. Main thing though, is that I made a Jumper, it's wearable (just) and it's finished!
Pics are in my Ravelry, will also add them to the group if thats ok?

  • I have been knitting for fifty years and to be honest its much cheaper to buy a lot of things these days, especially for babies. BUT knitted things do last longer. I tend to get my wool off Ebay or Discount sites like Diannas the only downside being that you need to make sure you get enough of any yarn thats discontinued. I used to go to jumble sales so that I could buy hand knitted jumpers and unravel them for the wool, but I dont go to jumble sales like I used to. I also used to get jumpers etc just for the buttons, and a friend of mine used to chop out the zips! Rag knitting is trendy and costs next to nothing. However I also get quite a lot of yarn from Freecycle, I have some really nice yarn actually. One woman gave me some very pricey Italian yarn because her dog ate the knitting needles and she was so upset that she didnt want to knit any more! The dog survived:eek: Lidl sells very cheap sock yarn etc occasionally although rather bland colours. I am so busy these days I dont do as much as I used to, but I hope to do more when I retire. I dont know if this thread has a link to www. knittingpatterncentral, where you can get a huge number of free knitting patterns, you just need to be careful to convert yarns and check out the terms ,like binding off for casting off etc, but apart from that I find them just fine, and to be honest a lot more imaginitive than our patterns over here. For crochet lovers there is the sister site crochetpattern central, but do be careful with American crochet termonlongy as they tend to use similar terms to mean different stiches so check that out carefully before using. Dont know of anyone will find any of these suggestions helpful.:)

Just had a look on ravelry- looks great, and I love your little angel too.
    Well done!

  • Thank you OS :D
In a way, I'm a bit sad it's finished now, have got !!!!!! all OTN LOL! Although I've been asked to knit up some little swatches as part of a "yarn bombing" (graffitti?) thing at our gym. In for a penny in for a pound eh?!

I was really surprised with how well the angel came out, as it was just done out of my head. She was just a triangle and a circle!!!
