  • Hi ladies (and if there are any gents!!) I am sat here bored out of my mind. Cant really move about as my back problem has flared up, so I thought I would knit a hot water bottle cover.

I just bought a new hot water bottle - from Boyes £2.50, bargain - and I could have paid for a cover but didnt want to :)

So basically, I haven't knitted anything for a few years and have never changed coloured yarns, so it will need to be one colour. Nor have a ever used circular needles. Is there a pattern you know of please... all help gratfully received, for now and the future!! :)

If you really cant knit very well, then practise drumming with the needles...

Hello there, I found this thread a couple of weeks ago and have been frantically reading to catch up ever since! I now have a folder full of links and "add to favourites" and have thoroughly enjoyed myself. I have been knitting since my granny taught me when I was 11 (now 45) and have periods where I go into other things (jewellery, cross stitch or, as my husband says, anything but housework!) but have just got back into knitting. Anyway, I've always been a bit of a lurker but would love to join this thread. I am currently knitting a drop shoulder jumper in King Cole Rio which is coming out beautifully.

After watching Kirstys home made home the other night I popped onto the website of Tobias and The Angel - OMG 45 pounds for a knitted father Christmas - I should be rich, I make them for friends for a tenner. Maybe I should think up a funky name and get a website :rotfl:

i struggle to knit with big needles too, very uncomfortable!

Well i had better get finishing my rabbit instead of wandering around here :rotfl:

Hmmm, so todays update- bumped into knitting friend and her lovely baby (great), browsed in wool shop (nice), bought some wool (BAD) and some bamboo needles (even BADDER)......now being all sentimental and uploading some pics of baby knits on ravelry.......will share!
Glad that bottle cover might be of use, I need to make one, am planning to make pattern up so will post if it works!

  • Looking at the pattern that OrkneyStar suggestions, I came to the conclusion it was a little bit confusing for me.... I cant see where I am meant to be decreasing stiches.. anyway, I look again at some and found this

Trouble with this one is, I have the no7 needles, and I have only done the first row, but the pattern looks really quite fine, not chunky. Am I using the wrong needles? :p

Well the needles are supposed to be 7mm needles, you are not using UK size 7 (which are 4.5mm) are you ? If they are mm it should say mm beside the number, if not then likely size 7! There is also american size 7.
    This explains it.
Sorry last pattern was no good :(.

  • Thanks OrkneyStar.... (can you just knit it for me haha) The needles just say 7 on them I have some 6mm and they are chunkier so I must have the wrong sizes in my bag. I would probably knit a baby shawl (if I could that is) with these 7's. Thanks for the guide, by the look of that I can get away with using the 6mm's.

Aw, dont be sorry about your pattern, I have bookmarked it and when I get a bit more confident I will have a go at that. My trouble is I dont know anyone in real life that knits, so I will be coming here for help. I learnt years ago from my foster mum and sadly she's passed away now, I wish I'd have listened more !

    Thanks again x
