Ouch, those sock blockers are horrendously expensive - I never dreamed they would be that much, can't imaging how they justify it!
So I'm going to have a go at making my own with flexible chopping boards, they have them in pack of 3 I think in the pound shop.
Blueberrypie, I tried to look at yours on Rav but couldn't find you - what's your Rav id?
ETA - just had a brainwave - would mouse mats be good? We have dozens of old unused ones from reps at work, it would be nice to make use of them!Oh dear, here we go again.0 -

All the mousemats I've had have been soft and flexible - they wouldn't be rigid enough for blocking anything - they'd just roll up. Also, would they be big enough?
Have just "shared" my diy sock-blocker project with the MSE group on Rav, so if you click on the group's Projects tab you'll find it :-)0 -
Well, I'm getting there with my jumper LOL
Back is done, sleeves are done and front is halfway through, so getting there.... 48cms of stocking stitch though....:(

Ooooh, I'd find that really hard using two different sized needles too!
What a shame your burnt it! Was it repairable?

xI've knitted with a 20mm one before and the other needle was probably a 4mm. It was for a tank top I knitted myself when I was about 8 or 9. It was a bit weird to knit with two different sized needles. Was a bit miffed as the first time I wore it I ended up burning the thread slightly whilst helping my mum cook dinner0 -
Hello - I am creeping in here for some help! I am knitting a spiral scarf using a circular needle (used flat not joined). The pattern depends on doubling the number of stitches every second row to give the end result of a spiral. Trouble is that towards the end there will be 1600 stitches on the needle; I have reached 800 and find it increasingly difficult to move the stitches and each stitch is a pain. I have never had such a miserable time knitting anything. Only two more rows to go but not sure whether I will get there.
Has anyone knitted a scarf like this in this way - if so do you have any tips before I throw the whole thing in the bin?0 -
Hi littleowl,
I`ve just finished one of them, well two in fact, one pink with sparkly thread through it and the other black sparkly, but it`ll be a while before I do another.
They are very pretty but such hard work - my fingers were aching by the time I was finished. When I came to the stage you are at now, I had to do a bit of a row - not a whole one - as it was boring and sore, and then go and do something else for a while and come back and do a bit more, go and do something else, then come back and finish it. Don`t bin it, it will be worth it in the end, it just seems to take forever....................
Good luck.Fully paid up member of S.A.B.L.E.

Thanks psso - that is exactly how I am finding it My fingers are sore and aching too. Will persist - but feel I am knitting hate into every stitch!!! I intended making another for my sister for Christmas but am not sure whether giving such a gift would be a good thing.0 -
I have just knitted 2 spiral ones but using a different method to the one above and they were a doddle to do (must have been as I am a beginner!:o). The pattern is as follows
using 6mm needles and dk 100g ball cast on 15 stitches.
row 1 knit 2 turn work around and knit the same 2 stitches back.
row 2 k4 turn work and knit same 4 back.
row 3 k6 turn work and knit same 6 back.
row 4 knit whole row.
you carry on like this until the scarf measures the length you want or you get fed up of having to stand up every so often to let it untwiddle!
I think it looks best using patterned wool.
Good luck and hth

Did you use a circular needle? Sorry - that was a silly question you wouldn't need a circular. So you just keep repeating those four rows?0 -
