Morning. Well I am havinga dreadful time trying to sort this 'easy' hot water bottle cover... I am only on row1 of the pattern and already I'm stuck. I have 6 stitches left on the needle and the pattern is followed to the letter... I'm getting really dispondent now
Could someone please help me out or give me the simpliest pattern lol xxHe who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.
If you really cant knit very well, then practise drumming with the needles...

Just a little stuck on this bit of pattern (tut sorry)
Where it says YO, does that mean put the yarn to the other side to what it is naturally falling due to the stich ie if I've done a purl I need to put it to the back, then do I slip a stich and put my yarn forward the purl another 2, so I probably will have 1 stich and a new one?
Sorry if this sounds gobbledgook...
http://www.knittinghelp.com/videos/knitting-glossary
has a glossary of all terms and even a video for some....I suggest you look at this as it might be easier to watch than someone try to explain!
I cannot find sl1wyif but think it means slip one, with yarn in front, so basically you will be slipping a stitch and then when you go to make next stitch you are effectively laying yarn over front of slipped stitch to get to next....found this :- “sl 1 wyib” means ” slip 1 with yarn in back”. This means, hold the yarn in back of the work, which where you normally hold the yarn when you knit a stitch, slip the next stitch. Do remember, the convention in knitting is: slip a stitch by inserting the tip as to purl unless otherwise stated.2
- “sl 1 wyif” means “slip with yarn in front”. This means hold the yarn in front of the work as you would to purl, slip the next stitch inserting the tip as to purl.
OR JUST TRY THIS ONE

(you will have to register with lion brand but it is free!).
They use 5.5mm needles and the yarn they specify is an aran weight (so aran or thick dk would work).......there seems only to be knitting, purling, the odd yarn over and knitting 2 together.
OR THIS ONE

Using DK (they say alpaca but as long as it is DK, and 3.25 and 4mm needles.
I think the problem is a lot of the patterns are made for having a fancy design and you just want something simple!Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

I just want to get going with the cover then hopefully I will be more confident to try something harder... at the mo, to knit a square would go horribly wrong for me haha xHe who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

Really like that hot water bottle cover. Might have to knit one now
My friend said the other day that her 16 year old son said that hand-knitted things were really fashionable now, so guess what my next project is going to beYou're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -

I'd say the plusses are: scenery, quieter, good schools, great produce/food, community aspect, less pressure to buy the latest fashions.
I'd say the minuses are: expensive to travel anywhere, lots of things have to be ordered from mainland/less choice in shopping, gossips in small community, fuel costs, dangerous rural roads, weather.
A lot of people think you can escape your problems coming to a small island but the problems follow you!
We like it though!

Here's my latest pair:
I did make the pinkish one for me originally, but have decided I like the traditional hat with a decent rib and turnover, my SisIL will love it though!!
Right, off to get some walls and ceiling washed down before painting them this afternoon....busy, busy.
As to living in Orkney...I would move back there tomorrow (not sure if DH is that keen). My mother's family is from there and I lived there from the age of 2 to 7. We didn't move far though...just to Caithness, where my dad and sis still are, so I get up there once in a while.
I just love the big sky, the sea (soooo miss this!) and the pace of life. There was a time that DH said yes we would retire to Orkney...but now the time is geting closer (well another 15 years or so...if not more), he is having second thoughts. He is a Fifer, where it is even colder than Orkney...but we have lived in England since '82. so we have gone soft!!!
Have a great day everyone.
