I am getting a bit overexcited now ... I didn't know you get wool that does Fair Isle effect all by itself! I want them all :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Edit: ok so I haven't even finished looking yet but I am in love with the Fabel AND I will be able to afford to buy food as well because it is not too dear. Plus it is in 50g balls so I won't have to worry I have used too much of a 100g one and have one sock shorter than the other! And I have discovered Hot Socks on the other site ... so much yumminess!!

Haha, hark at me, I haven't even finished my first sock yet and I'm planning the next ones! I'm about to start doing the foot bit soon - wish me luck!

Good luck, you're ahead of me, I've 3" of rib done so far, still at the stage where I seem to have needles sticking out in odd directions! But I'm getting the hang of 4 needle socks...slowley:)

Thanks Annie ... feels quite dangerous with all those needles sticking out doesn't it? :)

hey all, i have been knitting for a few years, but only just finished my first ever scarf! its an xmas present for my dad, in garter stitch. I wanted to put some tassells on the ends, i did one and didnt come out very well, i followed some instructions on the web but didnt finish very well. has anyone got any tips for making perfect tassells or anything else i could do to finish the scarf off? The scarf is in blue and was going to do blue and white tassells (football team colours!)

    thanks

Hi Jan  , well it's courtesy of lambanana ... I will blame her if I spend all my money on sock yarn and have to live on bread and dripping. :D

I am rubbish at explaining things ... for the type of link I did in my previous post, you don't need to do anything - just copy and then paste the website address in with the text.

But if you want to do a link like this but when you go to post a reply, first of all you highlight the text (in my case "like this"). Above the box you are typing in there are lots of icons. On the bottom row of those, just about right of centre there is a pcture of a globe sitting on a paperclip (or that's what it looks like to me). When you click on that, you get a box where you can copy and paste the URL (aka website address), press OK and you're done!

That's probably as clear as mud - I'm sure there's a better step by step tutorial somewhere!

Well I highlighted some text but couldnt find the icons! My cousin is staying so will ask her tomorrow. Thanks for your help.

hi there, I cannot get your pattern link to work (:o) but I have knitted socks using crofter DK with this pattern, which looks similar to yours, using two pins. The socks are then sewn up when finished.
TBH, although they are lovely, the resulting socks are too loose imho to wear as anything other than bed socks/slouch socks. There is also a pattern for doing them in chunky crofter but they must be mega loose! Mine are also nearly knee high so think I would make them a bit shorter next time!

So I was away south, in Glasgow, for a few days. Visited Hobbycraft and bought a lot of Regia, for socks, and also some Sirdar Click for a hat. Spent too much but have lots of sock wool to fill the dark Orkney nights.
Loving seeing all the pics and hope all are ok.

OrkneyStar -You are right about the looseness of the DK...I am knitting them for folk who use thick socks when walking across the hills...or just for slouching about the house. Here is a piccie of my first ever pair, using 4 pins and Silver's sock tutorial. I found them really easy to make, having no problems with shaping and turning the heel...and like the grafting for the toes!

Orkney, you have inspired me to try some fancier socks now...found some heather (purple) 4-ply in my stash (how did that get there!!), and I am having a go at the circle socks....will post a piccie when I am done.

Been looking at loads of different places to get 4-ply wool and have ordered this today...should get loads of socks (and other things!) out of this!! :D If I like the wool, I will order another cone or two so I can mix the colours. Chose this colour as DH and my Dad will wear socks this colour....traditionalists!!

Right off to check how DS2 is getting on with making pizza for tea.
