    Hi cute mouse,

As you thread has dropped down the board I've added it to the main knitting thread where you should get more advice.

    Hya all,

Don't think I have posted here at all, but have been lurking for a while. Lots of lovely things being created.

I wonder if anyone can help me. I have knitted since I was 4, but have never completed any socks! I have some Sirdar Crofter DK and Sirdar pattern no 9338, which I got online (Black Sheep). Unfortunately the socks are all knitted on two pins and I woud rather use 4 (or 5) or a circular needle. Can I just change to them regardless, or would I need to adapt the pattern? This would be difficult for me as I have only ever turned one heel...and that was well over 30 years ago!!! The other alternative is a pattern for DK on DP or circular...and I have been trawling through Ravelry and Knitting pattern Central, though they mostly seem to be for 4 ply. Perhaps I should just get some 4-ply, at least for my first attempt!!

I may just have a go at the weekend and see how I get on...but if anyone can help, or point me in a helpful direction, I would be very greatful.

    Thanks...goes back to lurking quietly.
hi there, I cannot get your pattern link to work (:o) but I have knitted socks using crofter DK with this pattern, which looks similar to yours, using two pins. The socks are then sewn up when finished.
TBH, although they are lovely, the resulting socks are too loose imho to wear as anything other than bed socks/slouch socks. There is also a pattern for doing them in chunky crofter but they must be mega loose! Mine are also nearly knee high so think I would make them a bit shorter next time!

So I was away south, in Glasgow, for a few days. Visited Hobbycraft and bought a lot of Regia, for socks, and also some Sirdar Click for a hat. Spent too much but have lots of sock wool to fill the dark Orkney nights.
Loving seeing all the pics and hope all are ok.

Ooh that sounds wonderful Orkney, I really like Regia, sounds like you are all stocked up for the winter!

Out of interest, does anyone know what is the best price for Regia Design Line sock wool online? They don't seem to do it in Kemps any more. I got two balls there for £4.89 including delivery to Ireland ... wish I'd got more!

And I know lots of you use other fancy sock yarns - I would like to use the self-patterning ones, don't mind what thickness/weight.

Haha, hark at me, I haven't even finished my first sock yet and I'm planning the next ones! I'm about to start doing the foot bit soon - wish me luck!

I've not seen Regia Design Line for much less than £4 per ball. I like Trekking XXL which is £7.70 for 100g from www.modernknitting.co.uk they have lots of other self patterning yarn on there and I can vouch that they deliver quickly. I also wish I'd bought more Regia when it was on offer from Kemps and I got enough for 4 pairs of socks!! I know some people got loads but even when there's a bargain I don't like to be too greedy, I try to leave some for other people as well

Hi Jan  , well it's courtesy of lambanana ... I will blame her if I spend all my money on sock yarn and have to live on bread and dripping. :D

I am rubbish at explaining things ... for the type of link I did in my previous post, you don't need to do anything - just copy and then paste the website address in with the text.

But if you want to do a link like this but when you go to post a reply, first of all you highlight the text (in my case "like this"). Above the box you are typing in there are lots of icons. On the bottom row of those, just about right of centre there is a pcture of a globe sitting on a paperclip (or that's what it looks like to me). When you click on that, you get a box where you can copy and paste the URL (aka website address), press OK and you're done!

That's probably as clear as mud - I'm sure there's a better step by step tutorial somewhere!

Your description is perfect NualaBuala, except you forgot to say delete the "http" bit which is already in the box, else you finish up with two lots and it goes funny.
