I know the heel using magic loop shouldn't be any more tricky or really that different from using DPNs but for some reason I have a mental block on it, I shall have to give it a go though
I don't think the pattern is on-line as it was in a book but you may be able to get it at the library, the book is very good though and has lots of lovely lace patterns and guides of how to knit lace and design your own shawls. http://http://www.amazon.co.uk/Knitted-Lace-Estonia-Techniques-Traditions/dp/1596680539/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1282142428&sr=8-1
The wool I'm using is from Yarn Addict, I got it in her sock sale so it was a good price for lovely, hand dyed wool. I have a special little yarn budget (though am currently attempting to knit from my stash) but this was bought from the Christmas budget as it's for a gift. I also got wool to knit my mum an Ishbel shawl.
The shawl I'm knitting for myself is with a laceweight yarn (merino and silk blend) and it's not too bad because it's not knit on teeny tiny needles (it's done in 3.75mm which feel massive compared to the 2.5mm ones I use for socks!) but I'm feeling a bit angry with it as I'd got through the first repeat, put in a lifeline, started a second repeat then made a right mess of it and had to rip back resulting in a knotted mess and me having to start all over again. I was not happy!
Is the Ishbel shawl you're referring to the pattern by Ysolda Teague? I bought this patter and it's a lovely shawl. I knitted it up to wear to a friend's wedding in April.Did owe £9,951.96

That's the oneI have one I knit for myself and my mum asked if she could have one when she saw it, she can knit but doesn't like knitting lace and after years of knitting for me the least I can do is knit something for her!

Lambanana - that will be beautiful once it's finished (it's already beautiful now actually!)
I'm a magic loop girl although I didn't realise that's what it was called.0 -
Hello everyone
I wonder if you could give me your opinion in my little dilemma...
I wish to make this gorgeous owl jumper:
http://needled.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/owls2.jpg
The pattern calls for bulky (12ply) yarn on 6.5mm needles. I'm having trouble finding bulky (or chunky yarn as it seems to be more commenly called) in a colour I want, or more accurately at a price I want :rotfl:
I did a quick tension swatch with two strands of dk yarn held together which turned out to be exactly the right tension for the pattern :T
Is it madness to knit up this jumper using 2 strands together? I haven't knitted a jumper before but I can do cables, knitting in round etc quite easily so I don't think it's beyond my capabilities, but I think it will be a bit of a challenge.
What does everyone think? I'd really love to hear your opinions0 -
I don't know unfortunately, but where did you get that pattern from? I quite like the look of that jumper.0

I've no idea funkymonkey, but I adore that jumper.Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

Ooo found this on Ravelry, it's a conversion for that jumper to a cardie and it's free, but you'll have to use it in conjunction with the Jumper pattern. Probably better for me as I'm more of a cardie wearer.

I have knitted a cardigan with 2 strands of double knitting instead of chunky and that turned out ok.0
