  • Loving all those socks! Can't wait until I get good enough to start knitting some of my own. I am currently knitting a basic baby's bib from a pattern I found on ravelry. http://www.bevscountrycottage.com/bevs-washcloth-bib.html It is going well but curling at the edges, maybe it is because of the wool I am using. I just have a bag full of random balls of wool donated to me, none have labels so am not sure of the brand, weight ect.

It's more likely to curl because of stitch pattern than weight/fibre of what you're knitting with. Looking at that and seeing it's garter stitch I'm not sure why it's curling (stockinette curls at the edges if it doesn't have a border to stop it doing so) I'd suggest once you've finished that you steam it gently by holding your iron over and blasting with the steam function and that should make it lie flat whether it's really wool or acrylic you've knit with :)

Thanks for kind comments on my socks.

Yay for your first project rooster! The scarf is great, will keep your DS very cosy!:T I often prefer the look of garter (knit) stitch.
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)

Thank you, i hope that one day i can do some socks and they will look as good as the pictures on here. I keep looking at videos on you tube but they really baffle me. ;)

I was (and still am) scared of socks! Mardatha posted a link to a beginner's tutorial that was working fine for me until I dropped a stitch and ripped back the whole lot. And there are always socks on 2 needles too.

Scarves are great though - I've knitted about 3 now. My sister still says the scarf I made her for Christmas one year was the best pressie ever.

So what's your next project going to be?

Lovely scarf, your DS will be warm and cosy in that :)

I spent a lot of today working on a lace shawl, have just started the third repeat of the lace pattern so need to finish that then three more before knitting the edging. It's moving at a reasonable pace at the moment but it's going to slow down soon as I build up to over 300 stitches on the needles!!

Ooh I thought the Owls Jumper pattern was free on Ravelry? If you're getting the right tension with 2 strands of DK held together go for it, I've knit things with 2 strands together before and don't think you can tell that's what you're doing and if it is the right size then who cares?!

I finished my husband's socks last night and he seemed very pleased with them :)

Spend tonight doing the first repeat of my lace shawl (not the pink one I posted a photo of earlier, one for me instead!) and I'm happy so far, not looking forward to the edging rows with about 400 stitches though!! Am a long way from those at the moment of course.

Lambana- which wool did you use for your socks? I use Regia generally but havent seen your wool. Did you use four needles or two? They are really lovely - very impressed!

Hi! The yarn is Opal (Schafpate) and it is lovely stuff. I got it in Germany (Opal is a German brand and this yarn is 100% made in Germany from the sheep to the dying process) but you can get it in the UK as well. I used 4 (well 5 as I have my stitches on 4 and knit onto a 5th as I prefer it that way) needles as I am not the neatest at sewing and if I can avoid a seam I will!

  • Completed my first project :j. I knitted from this pattern: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/bevs-washcloth-bib
and this is what mine looks like:

A little uneven in places and it curls at the corners! Not knitted for anyone in particular, just for practice.
