I love that Owl jumper/cardi! How cute!
  • I finished my bag! my hands are aching so much though.. I dont know how to post a picture here but its in my ravelry projects if anyone wants to see it (same name on there)

I'm sooo pleased with it, it looks like the pattern! (well apart from the handles). If anyone is looking for a bag pattern I'd recommend it cablebag, on drops (garnstudio) website - Free! I think I'll make one for oh's mum for christmas.

I'm looking for a project to take away with me tomorrow, something small (ish) ..I'm thinking socks! I guess I'll HAVE to browse Ravelry rather than do m packing now..oh well

Another pair of socks finished, these are the ones knitted on 4 needles, think the next pair I knit will be done on 4 needles till I get to the heel and then the shaping and foot on 2 needles, best of both worlds!!

Csarina, they're lovely. It seems like two minutes since you finished your last socks! You are one fast knitter!

  • Hello everyone :)

I wonder if you could give me your opinion in my little dilemma...

I wish to make this gorgeous owl jumper:
    http://needled.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/owls2.jpg

The pattern calls for bulky (12ply) yarn on 6.5mm needles. I'm having trouble finding bulky (or chunky yarn as it seems to be more commenly called) in a colour I want, or more accurately at a price I want :rotfl:

I did a quick tension swatch with two strands of dk yarn held together which turned out to be exactly the right tension for the pattern :T

Is it madness to knit up this jumper using 2 strands together? I haven't knitted a jumper before but I can do cables, knitting in round etc quite easily so I don't think it's beyond my capabilities, but I think it will be a bit of a challenge.

What does everyone think? I'd really love to hear your opinions :)

That jumper is GORGEOUS! I wish it would suit me, but I never wear jumpers and the ol' bosom is too big for round necks :rotfl:

My peacocks feather shawl is coming along nicely....have got to the end of chart 2 (there are 9 charts which you work twice as you start in the middle and work outwards). Only made a couple of mistakes so far
    Sum quod sum.

  • All those socks! I tried them once... And got about half way through the leg before abandoning them for something else! They're still on the needles, every now and then I pull them out and look at them, and think about having another go... That's as far as I get!

I've managed to go to my parents for the weekend, and not bring my knitting. Oopsie! Luckily, I have a small stash of yarn upstairs, and some needles too, so all I need to do now is match them up to a pattern I fancy making - off to hunt through ravelry for a while I think! :D

Started a cable bag tonight - Ravelry pattern of course- and after 2 tries got the pattern set and its growing fast. Thought if I lined it in funky fabric would do for nephews wife for Christmas. the wool was just lying around so it was an investment and the rest will do a wee cardi for Dgs. Found the hot water bottle covers I crocheted last year so just need to sow buttons on them. Got 1 sock left to do then I have finished 2 pairs, Im a really slow knitter. Lost the rest of the wool for Peter rabbits jacket so will have to buy a new ball tomorrow and re knit the body of it, then its just the sleeves and 2 feet and he is finished. Feel like I am actually getting somewhere.

Got to think of something for the little men in my family, last year they got crochet houses to go with their toy cars , they were quick and easy so am thinking of making a beach hut version and filling them with rice for doorstops.

Ooh I thought the Owls Jumper pattern was free on Ravelry? If you're getting the right tension with 2 strands of DK held together go for it, I've knit things with 2 strands together before and don't think you can tell that's what you're doing and if it is the right size then who cares?!

I finished my husband's socks last night and he seemed very pleased with them :)

Spend tonight doing the first repeat of my lace shawl (not the pink one I posted a photo of earlier, one for me instead!) and I'm happy so far, not looking forward to the edging rows with about 400 stitches though!! Am a long way from those at the moment of course.
