Hi guys, I have just started to learn how to knit. My Mum tried to teach me when I was young but I was a very uncoordinated child and could not get the knack of it. Am doing a lot better now I have got into the rhythm. Few dropped stitches though and one side is slightly shorter than the other lol, I am sure practise will make perfect though.

That baby cardigan is beautiful lambanana. Well my wip (work in progress) is piling up but am getting there. Migraine today didnt help much but a bit of progress. Im just so tempted to start more stuff, my niece finds out the sex of her latest baby in September though so I will keep myself on 'c' word stuff till then and use up my stash!

I must admit though I have resisted sock knitting till recently (spurred on by Mardatha) I love it and yes the socks are very comfortable, going to add the alpaca to the next pair as I have a couple of balls given by a friend on Bonnie Babies. they are far superior to bought socks and yes addictive :T

  • I'm coming to the end of my daughters cardigan and while browsing the King Cole website I noticed lots of other patterns I'd like to do. What is the cheapest way - has anyone got any they could sell or swap?

Right, I have found a pattern on the internet, have got the needles and the wool already. The pattern I have found you use "normal" needles (not double pointed) so I am all set to go. Will give it a try tonight as ds2 is waiting to go to the park. Will keep you posted

Could you please post the link for this pattern? TIA x

I followed a link on this thread to skandinavian knitting design. There is a free pattern on there for felted slippers when you buy the wool, lovely chunky pure wool!. does anyone know if this slipper pattern is in the round or on 2 straight needles? It says pointed needles sz 8, surely all needles are pointed and I'm sure I've seen similar patterns to this knitted flat. And.... do you think that it means it takes a totlal of 2 balls?

If they only take 2 balls and are knit flat I an see myself making a few pairs for Xmas!

Since I knit my first pair of socks (just over a year ago) I haven't wanted to wear shop bought socks, hand knit are just so much more comfortable and so warm! Sadly I don't have enough pairs yet to give up on the shop bought but I'm working on it!

I do have a slight excess of WIPs at the moment, I've got some socks OTN for me (am almost half way through leg of second sock), a lace scarf for MiL, a cardigan for me which I've been knitting since February and still haven't finished the sleeves (I keep abandoning it for more interesting projects, I swear I'll finish it eventually!) and a pair of socks for DH...well I've knit the first one and now he's nagging about why I haven't knit the second one when I finished the first in May...I haven't knit the second because I was distracted by another pair of socks for me, two baby cardigans and some other bits and pieces :o I also need to knit something for a swap I'm doing on a knitting website. I just can't help myself, I suffer terribly from startitis and end up with loads of WIPs!

    My current priority projects are:

    - knit something for knitting swap
    - knit second sock for DH
    - knit MiL's scarf

Then I can think about other knitting!

Doh, the 2.5mm bamboo DPNs I ordered from Ebay had a couple of "splinters" - has that ever happened anyone here? I can still use them I guess but I don't think they're good quality if this happened. I've never had such thin needles before and I've always bought proper brands up till now. These don't seem to be branded. I wonder if I can return them or is this a normal thing?
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

I would contact the seller before using the needles. They should offer a replacement, and if they don't, open a Paypal dispute. They shouldn't have splinters.
