My first attempt at knitting socks. These were done on 2 needles, I have started on a pair for my Grandson for Christmas, on 3 needles, its took me a while to get used to using them, and they are going to take me a while to do, good job I started early!!!

Mardatha which is the pattern you use????? I got patterns with 2 of the lots of wool I sent for.

I used to be able to read & knit, or watch telly & knit. But since I got ME, I can only do one thing at a time. Is dead weird . I even have to stop talking when I'm doing anything or it all goes to hell. LOL !

You are not the only one, I used to be able to knit, read and watch TV at the same time, now I have a problem knitting and following a pattern.

this one Csarina. I havent tried toe -up yet, these are toe-down . I add in another strand of Alpaca on the soles, to give extra warmth and cushioning. makes them nice and thick :)

that leaf sachet looks mince at first, but I think you could make it nicer and fill it with crushed lavender, mint or lemon balm..:)

It does look a bit dodgy doesn`t it !!
    A bit like a long b00b with a verrrry long nipple:o

Personally, if I was doing it, I would hang it from the leaf stalk - more natural- when did you ever see a leaf hanging that way ?
Might be nice filled with lavendar in yer drawers - NO not those ones - but I don`t think I`d hang one up in the car..............

With a toe-up sock, you start by creating the toe, then knit the foot, go around the heel, then knit the leg of the sock. The advantages are that you don't have any kitchenering etc to do at the toe, that you can knit them as long on the leg as you have yarn, etc.

With a leg-down sock, you cast on stitches to go around the leg, knit the leg, then the ankle, then the foot, then finish with the toe. There are probably more sock patterns around for these, as it's the traditional way to knit socks.

I prefer toe-up and usually knit them on a circular needle, using the magic loop method, using Silver's instructions as the basis for my sock. If you follow those closely, you won't go far wrong.

Mardatha :A Thankyou SO MUCH for posting this link. I've been wanting to try socks although never plucked up the courage, but this makes it look not exactly easy, but do-able.

Also love the tip about the extra strand in the soles, it makes so much sense but it would never have occurred to me!

I've been to my stash heap and have chosen some wool for my first 'trial' pair and also some for my Dad, his wife and my SIL for Christmas (maybe slight over-confidence from enthusiasm there...)

Only problem now, is that I can't find my DPNs
Obviously if I go out to buy some, they will immediately re-appear, but I want to get started. Wish me luck!

I had to go and buy a set of 5 no 3 knitting pins, the only ones they had were the bamboo type, £5.20!!!! I need to knit a heck of a lot of socks to pay for those!!!

The best deal I got was from the internet, pattern, woo, 5 needles, darning needle and row markers for £10 95. I have just started knitting the socks, its going to take me ages........I think I am going to have to quilt when its light and knit socks in the evening, my routine is going to have to change!!
