I regularly take knitting with me when I fly....always use circular needle though as I think that 'straight' needles are not allowed in hand luggage and I always take hand luggage only. If you are
checking a bag there is no problem taking knitting needles in checked bag.

It took me 2 hours to find another crochet hook - it wasn't in the tea luckily! Finally picked up the stitches on Dh's socks and am nearing the toe! Thats 2 socks that will be finished by tonight, well i got bored so I did one pink and one black, will have to do the black next but a ball of Kemps sage green 4 ply is looking at me while I knit so i may do that one next :)

Nearly finished crochet throw and have 3 or 4 cross stitches ready to frame for the 'c' word. Ds's ex came to see us last night she is visiting from Bahrain or somewhere that way. She was very impressed with the socks and Dgs fell in love with her and her jingly bangles and earrings - kept him quiet for an hour :rotfl:

Found a big ball of aran whilst looking for hook so thats the wool for dd's shruggy thing, and there was a bag pattern on Ravelry that will match it nicely so she is sorted for Christmas.

I've never dared attempt to take knitting on a plane with knitting needles being a banned item but have heard of people having more luck with bamboo circulars. An alternative is a wooden crochet hook and doing some crochet (which I can't do, I've never learned and my attempts have never gone very well!) but I'd never take anything I wouldn't be upset to give up if I had to, obviously you can keep the yarn but if they confiscate the needles you'll have to start again or you can thread what has been done onto a bit of spare wool.

I am getting there on the baby cardigan I'm knitting, I need another 3cm of sleeves then I can do the button bands, collar and sewing up and THEN I can start on my christmas knitting :D

Hi all, i new on here I have been lurking and I wanted to say Hi!
I am 29 and i knit and crochet and shrug off the laughter that I get off friends when i tell them my hobby. I v just finished a neck warmer for my daughter and have started one for my son, I also have a crocheted blanket on the hook too as I like to swap and change what I am doing.
Id like to learn to knit socks so that is something on my list to start soon.
Looking forward to sharing projects and learning some new skills from you ladies.
    Louise xx

Hi Louise, welcome! (if I can say that, being a newbie myself!)

Can I ask what a neck warmer is? Because I'm thinking scarf and I'm assuming it's something different!

    JeanieGY,

You`ll find lots of neckwarmers and cowls on knitting pattern central.

    http://www.knittingpatterncentral.com/directory/cowls_neckwarmers.php

and lots on ravelry too. You might need to register to see the patterns, but it`s free and you aren`t bombarded with loads of emails.

Hope you find something you like.

This is a long shot - but ! - if anybody in here has any wool, pure 100% wool or close, that they want to swap for fun fur ? I got a load of purple pink and blue funfur cheap and just wont use it. But I need warm socks :D If anybody interested just PM me ok.

I almost finished the cardigan I'm making for my cousin's baby yesterday, all I need to do now is cast off the button band, knit on the collar and sew it up :) it felt like a free present as I'd had the yarn and pattern stashed away for so long I don't remember where I got it or what I paid! I love finishing things, baby garments are good for that as they're so quick and easy to finish!

Would you like to come and finish some of my projects ? I have four that are nearly finished but the thought of sewing them together is putting me off. I hate sewing up :o

The cardigan is lovely by the way

    Lovely cardigan lambanana :j

    Sorry, another pattern question...

I'm decreasing on the hood on the 1st, 5th and 9th rows.

Cont to decrease as established on alt rows to 60 stitches

Does the as established on alt rows refer to the number of stitches to knit between decreases, rather than the rows, which aren't alternate?
