    I have knitted socks on two needles but never on 4 or 5, have just sent for a kit to knit using 5 needles and tips????? Joining seams I was taught by my mother to knit the first stitch on every purl row and then use these 'bobbles, to join the seams together by passing the thread through them when holding them right sides together.
    Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.

    Morning everyone! :wave:

    Wish me luck - I'm starting my first pair of socks today using the online tutorial somebody kindly posted here. I did start last night but found that tiredness, bleary-eyedness and sock-knitting are incompatible. I found the very fine wool and teeny tiny needles a bit weird but hopefully will get used to them.

    Poohspals - You've got needles, yarn and are knitting a cardigan - of course you're a knitter (in my humble beginner's opionion anyway). :) Good luck with the cardigan!

    Sorry - am no use with advice to those stuck with patterns as I'm a beginner but I love reading the answers!
    Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)

    Morning Ladies (and gentlemen?),

    I'm trying to take up knitting as I've been a cross-stitcher for many years. So I bought this kit:

    But I'm really struggling with the pattern, as it just seems to add stitches, rather than keep them the same number after I've completed four rows of pattern.

    The pattern goes like this:

    Cast on 21 stitches.
    Row 1: K1, *Yarn Forward, K3, Yarn Forward, K1, rep from * to end.
    Row 2: Purl
    (I can keep the number of stitches at 21 after the above two rows.)
    Row 3: K2, Slip One Knitways, Knit 2 together, Pass Slipped Stitch Over, *K3, Slip One Knitways, Knit 2 together, Pass Slipped Stitch Over, rep from * to last two stitches, K2.
    Row 4: Purl

    After completing Row 3, I've ended up with 25 stitches on my needle and the pattern doesn't look even?

    It's got my mum stumped, she can't figure out why it's not working, as this rate I'm going to have a very big triangle.

    Any suggestions?
    (I'm a very beginner, so please go gently with me. :o)

    1= a each individual stitch
    x = bring your yarn yarn forward creating a stitch on needle when you knit the next stitch
    (1 1 1) means slip a stitch un knitted onto your right hand needle, knit 2 together then pass the slipped stitch over making 3 stiches decrease into one

    i hope that helps so you should create a wavy lace effect





    row 1)
    1x 1 1 1x 1x 1 1 1x 1 x1 1 1x 1 x1 1 1x 1x 1 1 1 x1 = 31 stitches
    row 2) purl
    row 3) 1 1 (1 1 1) 1 1 1 ( 1 1 1) 1 1 1( 1 1 1) 1 1 1 (1 1 1) 1 1 1 (1 1 1) 1 1 = 21 stitches again
    row 4) purl

    Csarina, here is the universal best ever sock tutorial. Nuala, fine wool on small needles makes a much nicer finished article and you get to prefer it :)

    That's the tutorial I'm using and it looks doable *crosses fingers* Mardatha, I am in love with my wool - a gorgeous self-striping Regia wool so I so want to get used to it! I just finished knitting something with quite chunky wool and needles so I guess it's no wonder I'm finding the thin stuff a bit odd. I'm afraid of breaking the needles!

    Wee bit better today pet thanks. Am going to play with my drop spindle again.. And there will be no swearing.

    It had a vide for Slip 1, K2tog, psso and it turns out I wasn't putting the slip stitch in the right place, I was putting it back on my left hand needle. :o

    This knitting marlarky is confusing to begin with. :o:o

    I now have 21 stitches. :T
