does anyone know where i can get a pattern for Sirdar country style chunky? its an old wool, (discontinued) i have about 11 balls, found it in a charity shop for £2.50!!
I had a look on ebay but nothing there - it would probably knit to any chunky pattern but you will need to check your tension and maybe adjust your needle size. If I remember correctly I always had to use a slightly larger needle to get the correct tension. Hope this helps.

Have you tried your local library?

I don't know when the wool was discontinued but my library has knitting books that are several years old so a lot of the patterns are made with yarns that are no longer available.

Come to think of it, a lot of the books are no longer available to buy!

    Hi all,

Was wondering if it's ok if I join you? I'm crocheting rather than knitting, but it's similar right? :D

At the moment I'm making a blanket from granny squares with added flowers and hearts, hoping to have it finished fairly soon. I've just returned to crocheting after years of not doing it, so it's taking a bit of time to get used to it!

Hello there, I'm a crocheter too - although I also knit. At present I've been designing and crocheting prem baby clothes for the local neo-natal unit, as a break from knitting cardis for two little girls who have birthdays next month. I have bad arthritis among other things and find that at least knitting and crocheting keeps my hands mobile ;).

Hi there, I've been a long time lurker on here. Well I posted ages ago and havent really picked up my knitting needles in ages! But it's a great way to chill out after work, and with 3 girls, there's always something that they want lol.

I've made a few scarves as christmas pressies before and now am branching out. The younger girls are 8 and almost 6 and they both got little girl baby dolls for their birthdays (you know the ones that have their bits!) so they have decided that they wanted clothes and stuff knitted for the dolls. So am doing a stash for each of them as part of their christmas pressies. And the oldest (my stepdaughter really) has just come to live with us permanently and she loves the scarves that I made her last year so am going to try and make her some bags and funky stuff.

I have a huge stash of wool and really need to use it all up first as hubby is complaining that its taking up so much room in the wardrobe. I have 2 huge bags and a holdall full of wool and another bag with some small projects that I did. So its back to the knitting for me. I have a feeling that the oldest will soon be joining me, as she is a bit of a mini me!

  • I've only been knitting for about 18 months, but have a huuuuuge stash!
Am quite chuffed with myself as have just incorporated SL1P in a pattern. The pattern is only a 4 stitch one, but I still get easily confused where I am. In my defence, I do have concentration problems, but any tips to keep track of where I am within the 4 stitch pattern? iyswim.
I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to break :D

Type Drops into Google and it will take you to loads of free knitting patterns. Just check the tension on the wool and then search for patterns that use the same tension

My parcel came from Kemps and its all fab, the pale pink 4 ply will do Dd socks for xmas. Got a pattern for super chunky ladies hats - the wool is chunky not the ladies! So need to find some cheap wool for that, may experiment mixing strands of aran together as have a big ball of denim aran.

I crochet too and have just started making yarn from old baby vests that are nice but slightly bobbled. I just cut a spiral round and round till I get to the arms, then I crochet them into little bowls for storing bits and bobs. Last night I cut up 2 t shirts and am thinking I could crochet a bath mat with it.

Help! My oldest daughter and I have just been to see Twilight Eclipse and she is now hankering after the bella hat! The only problem I have is that I can't knit with double pointed needles or with a circular needle. Any advice on how I can alter the patterns I found would be most appreciated. Thanks! x
