hey guys, need some help, i really want to start knitting and im trying to be as money saving and self sufficient as i can this year but i cant knit. Wheres the best place to start, should i buy a book or magazine first? ive got some needles i picked up from a charity shop

Try looking for a knitting club nearby - should be lots of knowledgeable folk at those. Do you have a knitting/craft shop near you, they could probably help with the basics.

There are lots of tutorials and free patterns online as well. I'd highly recommend Kemps wool shop for cheap yarn and FAB service.

Hiya, I just took up knitting (i learned as a child how to do it, so it didnt take long to refresh my memory. I searched google to learn how to cast on, then how to knit a row, then purl a row and how to bind off. There are loads and loads of videos and articles out there for it. I then joined ravelry.com on the recommendation of a friend and have had some great advice off there when I have been stuck. Finally I picked my first project which was:

    and

was my second one. I now have a hat and matching booties for my wee man in feb. x

I am sure there are tutorials on youtube - much easier if you can see what needs to happen! You could also join ravelry.com it's a fabulous resource for patterns etc.

Maybe you could knit blankets for an animal shelter, they probably wouldn't mind a bit of hair?

Hi LizD - I've searched through a threads here and I'm gonna do blankets for cat shelters - they definately won't mind some cat hair :D. Thanks for the suggestion.

The Wool Tweed and Just Soya don't have mohair. The Caressa and Misty do. The rest appear to be completely synthetic. If you click on them, they give the fibre contents for each. HTH.
