Not sure!
My knitting book says that yarn forward means you secure the new loop by knitting the next stitch as normal, so would I slip the next stitch (next to the loop) and treat the following one as the one I secure the loop with, then psso the one I slipped, IYSWIM?
PepPop is right, you would bring the yarn forward as if to purl, slip the very next stitch, then knit a stitch before passing the slipped stitch over. There are a few books out there that are worded like yours and cause a lot of confusion when it comes to lace knitting. A lot of people read those books and spend time scratching their heads when stitch counts don't work out because they're adding in an extra knit stitch after every yarn forward. Instead of saying "knit the next stitch" they should say "work the next stitch" to avoid confusion.
I hope that makes sense!0 -
I tried the method you both suggested and it seems to have worked. :T
Now I'm a bit unsure about the next knit row (row 3). Any tips, please?0 -
Hiya,
this time you- knit 2 together where you see /
- then move the wool to the front (as if you were going to purl)
- knit the next stitch (you'll notice the loop makes up for the stitch you lost knitting 2 together)
- then move the wool to the front (as if you were going to purl)
- slip the next stitch
- knit the next one and pass the slipped stitch over
I'll log on later tonight if you need more help.0 -
Ok. Couple of questions still:
- How do I start the row off? It says to bring the yarn forward, then what do I do with it?
- When you say move the yarn to the front of the work, do you mean slip the next stitch, wrap the yarn around the needle and knit the following stitch (securing the loop), then psso?
Beginning to wish I hadn't started this one and it's the basic level in the book!0 -
Sorry Liz - ended up in my bed feeling bleugh last night and didn't go near the laptop.
When it says bring yarn forward - you move it to the front as if you were going to purl the next stitch but instead you knit it as normal and the yarn then makes a sort of stitch lying across your needle.
move the yarn forward before you slip the stitch. move the yarn to the front as if you were going to purl the next stitch. slip the next stitch on to your needle then knit the next stitch as normal so you now have stitch made by the yarn forward (IYKWIM) the slipped stitch and the knitted stitch then you psso leaving you with the loop and the knitted stitch.
I'll keep logged in while at work today if you need any more help. It's one of these things that when you get the hang of it you'll get on fine. Hang in there it'll be worth it.0 -
Meant to ask - what are you knitting - jumper?0
-
Hi PepPop
Once again, thanks for your help! I'll try experimenting over the next few days and see how I get on!
It's a cardigan that I'm knitting, I've just started it.0 -
No Probs I just hope what I'm typing makes sense. Good luck it'll be worth it in the end.
I refuse to buy jumpers etc now - I bought black wool and so far I've made a hooded cardigan and a pair of gloves and enough left to do another pair. All made for £12 approx - couldn't buy them for that - very MSE0 -
Does anyone have a link for a free cricket jumper pattern? My son has just decided that I can knit him a couple. :rolleyes:Dum Spiro Spero0
