Love the gloves PepPop...I understand that bamboo needles are easier to use although I have never had a problem with what I assume are metal needles...am sure that someone will be along soon who knows what they are talking about!

Can I ask - I have always used metal knitting needles but I was wondering what difference it makes using bamboo ones. I am knitting these gloves at the moment

and have had to give myself a break after the first glove as I have blisters on my finger and thumb :o. I was wondering if I used wooden needles would this help?

I use bamboo needles and find them really light and easy to use - I much prefer them to metal.

    Hi Everyone

    Happy New Year!

I used to knit a lot, years ago, things like Aran sweaters, baby shawls etc, but haven't had time to do much in recent years.

I do love the really fluffy scarves that everyone wears (maybe they're out of fashion now though? lol) - last time I did some I could knit them up in one or two days, but haven't been wool shopping for some time. I did see a lady wearing one last week however, and it was the most gorgeous colour of burgundy/red, I couldn't help looking at it!

Does anyone else here do scarves or are you all far more adventurous than me?? If so, what wool do you use for them?

Oh, is there a thread where people can post piccies of their completed knitted items or is that just on here?

    Thanks

    Sal

Generally people like different needles for different types of yarn - although most people have a favourite. Bamboo needles are a little "stickier" than metal so good for yarns that slip - silks, bamboo and fine wools etc. Metal and resin needles are good for stickier yarns - Aran wool, acrylic blends etc. It's a matter of personal choice but you may certainly find that changing needles helps. It might be that you're "hanging on to the knitting" to stop it slipping off the needle without realising, and that is giving you the blister? I knit loads of socks (amongst other things) and love Clover bamboo needles and also the Knitpro wooden ones.

Hi all, i,m posting this for mt M I L , she has knitted for years and her patterns are showing signs of age, does anywhere know of a website we can get replacement patterns from. We are after Patons and Keynote/ Fashion Focus.
    Many thanks

Perhaps you could try contacting Patons directly ? If you have the pattern number(s) they might be able to send you a photocopy even - I did this once with a favourite Wendy pattern which was falling apart.
Keynote patterns were Littlewoods own patterns weren`t they ? Not sure if you would be able to get them now.

Could it have been something like the funky fur ?

I did some scarves recently with Sirdar Foxy from the same company.

    Hello Psso

Thanks for taking the time to post those links, that wool is gorgeous and although I don't think it's the same colour as she was wearing, it is lovely, I think I might have to get some of that! lol

You`re welcome Sally. I bought the Foxy to do cushion covers for my DGD`s bedroom when she got it decorated and used some more for scarves and I still have some left - hmm, maybe hedgehogs next ?
Enjoy your knitting whatever you decide on.

I bought a roll of wooden needles in the sale at John Lewis- they were about £8.
I quite like them, but they are a bit 'grippy' so am finding that I am having to knit slightly looser (not a bad thing).
Also, bought some wool when I was there- some rowan biggy print (which is now a baby blanket) and some rowan big wool (to make nappy covers) which were both half price.
I also learned a new stitch- my book calls it aerated garter stitch, which meant that I could use the super bulky wool on thinner needles without it being very heavy.
