really can't tell you all how long it has taken me to read the whole of this thread :rotfl: but it was well worth it! Anyway - since i started it i have knitted myself two tops in cotton, a cardigan for my baby, a cardigan for a friend who is having a baby, loads of paperchain links [from early on in the thread :o] and some squares to use up oddments that i have been given by my mum and am hoping to make into a blanket for one or other of the kids.

the thread has really inspired me - it also directed me to kemps woolshop where i bought enuf 'Just Bamboo' to knit three tops for myself.... came to less money than buying the yarn to make one elsewhere  I am currently deciding whether to stock up on some of the funky yarn on there to make scarves as christmas presents for my female relatives......

over the summer i need to finish the top i am making and then knit the other two :rotfl: then i have to knit 2 school cardigans in royal blue - one for my 5 year old and one for my 3 year old before september..... that should keep my busy.

Winter project is going to be learning how to crochet... altho i do have a pattern for a sweater dress - yarn suggested is sirdar clic so altho i got some from Aldi for it I am considering the readicut offer..... has anyone ordered from there recently? am i likely to get what i want or are they still doing the unsuitable substitutions?

thanks all - will start contributing now i have finished reading!

Hello swampytiggaa, you do sound busy :)

I bought some quill casein knitting needles after blueberry recommended them earlier in this thread. I heard this week from the woolly workshop who sold them they are now discontinued as they are ceasing to make them after the gentlemans wife died. She has listed all she has left at a reduced price if anyone else uses them.

have to say i have found this thread really inspirational - makes me want to get on and knit! I force myself to finish something before i start the next thing tho altho my paperchains and squares don't count in that - i keep those on child size needles in my handbag for out and about knitting.

oh - and this thread inspired me to buy my mum a set of bamboo needles for her birthday which she says are helping with her arthritis so thanks everyone who commented on those!

Try Kemps for your Sirdar Clic http://www.kempswoolshop.com/search.aspx certainly if you want the Clic Chunky, it's £1.89 at Kemps compared with £2.10 from readicut. I made three jackets with this, one each for my DD's and one for me - but I did find it pilled quite a bit around the cuffs.

thank you for that unity - i might just use up the aldi wool for now unless i see a real bargain.

well i have just finished my first bamboo top - lovely and silky but a bit awkward to sew up - think with the next one i will use cotton thread rather than the knitting yarn. Bit perplexed tho - have used the correct yarn knitted to the correct tension and i have over a ball left! Just glad i bought it from Kemps at 89p a ball rather than from anywhere else at £3-25 a ball  so it looks like when i have finished my three tops i will have 3 balls of yarn unused in three different colours.... might experiment with a bag out of them maybe unless anyone has any better ideas? not sure if it would make dishcloths altho i suppose it would if i have nothing else to use it up with.....

off to start my green top now i think! Happy knitting!

    I've been Money Tipped!
I (nearly) always end up with balls leftover and I knit quite loosely. I wonder if knitting patterns are a bit like sewing ones - they overestimate to account for wastage?
  • well MIL has just seen and admired my finished top so i have ordered the yarn to make her one :D i also bought 15 balls of funky wool to make scarfs as christmas presents :D will be on for advise on those later i expect..... will start MIL's top when i have finished my green one.

I went to my mums yesterday and aquired some school cardigan patterns.... have decided to do one in double knit rather than 4 ply to start with cos i reckon the 4 ply one might take me ages.....

Hi swampytigga - for info - Readicut have a "pot luck" offer on Sirdar Click at £6.80 per pack (10 balls) + £3.95 postage. You can't choose your colour but it works out at around £1.11 per ball incl delivery!
