Only a month to do bands and sewing up - I call that a major achievement! Three of the worst tasks in knitting (sewing up, bands and buttonholes) and you buckled down to all 3! Congratulations and good luck with the scarf!
Thanks Seakay for making me feel better, I get on great till the last 3 jobs I hate, the next time I knit for myself will be a jumper, no bands or buttonoles, hows that ? LOL

I love your Santa Cazarol, he looks great !

Plumduff, did you see the earlier post on here, where one of the "Knitting Gang" incorporates the band into the pattern and so knits it as she goes.
I'm really tempted by this idea, as i always find it difficult to sew the bands on and still make the garment look decent.

Hi, Yes, I have thought about this, but didn't know what the finish would be like. Someone at work is knitting a cardigan this way at the moment and is going to bring it in to show me when it's finished. Once I see it i'll let you know what I think, Plum

I did try this on a cardigan for a small child - but found that the button bands came out slightly 'baggy' due to them not being knitted on needles two sizes smaller then being 'stretched to fit'.

Don't know if this would happen with a larger size cardigan. Only tried it the once and thought not worth attempting again.

Cazarol - brilliant Santa. Well done :T

I've knitted on and off over the years, but as it's just been the very occasional item, I'm still quite inexperienced. Picked the needles up again last year for the first time in 9 years. Have done very little since then, but just decided to start a pair of gloves this evening. I've never made gloves, but hopefully they'll turn out OK.

Just had a look on the website and it says cardigans are needed. I cant see a pattern, Am I looking in the wrong place? I like small projects as I can see a finished project quite quickly so this sort of thing definitely appeals to me
    Thanks

If you're a frustrated knitter and don't know what to knit, please consider knitting for your local premature baby unit.
There are lots of ideas here

including patterns for wraps for babies that sadly don't make it.

Once knitted, it seems best to give the items directly to staff in the Labour Ward, not just leave them at the Maternity Unit reception.

No apologies for repeating this as it's such a worthwhile cause. Lots of patterns including cardigans.

try doing the button bands in crochet. They are so much easier and quicker to do and you can give them as much stretch as you like

That sounds like a really good idea - do you know of anywhere that gives instructions for howto set about it?
