Assuming that your tension is the same as that stated on the pattern, you increase using that for a guide. eg 6 stitches to an inch, you want an increase of 2 inches on the chest, 12 stitches
If you look at the size increases on the pattern then that will give you an idea about where the differences between sizes occur - eg if the sizes given go up by 2 inches chest size at a time but there are only 4 stitches difference per size at cast on, then you only want an extra 4 stitches to start with, and the others must be worked in later.
Also, bear in mind that if you have a pattern that is an eight stitch repeat, it will make it easier for yourself if you can add 8 or 16 stitches, rather than 12.

Some other tips and ideas here: http://www.v-comm.net/seattleknitter/resizing.html

Thanks a million seakay for both the instructions and the link. I knew it must work something like that, but it is nice to get the finer details. :T

Glad to help - hope that it all goes well but don't forget to let us know either way.

Thinking of which - Whatatwit, what is the latest on your scarf? It's been such a saga of difficulty what with the pattern being wrong etc that I really want to know if you overcame all obstacles in the end!

Kittie - look into my eyes, straight into my eyes

you do not want to go to the craft show. You do not need wool. It will be more trouble than it's worth

wake up when I count to 3

    1 .... 2 .... 3

then again - maybe a little peek would be OK:rolleyes: :D

Oh I am going great guns, Have got Santas body knitted and sewn up, I've got all the other little bits done as well.
I so want to finish him all on my own so I can surprise everyone with him but I am really struggling, or maybe its just confidence (as if it matters) on where to do his eyes. It says 20 rows up from the inc row but I just dont feel very sure on where and how close..........................how annoying
I will stick with it though...
He is going to be ACE

Well my Santa is coming on great! He's stuffed and has eyes and a nose - I've done his arms and cuffs - now just working on the beard. I'm a bit of a slow knitter though :o and I find increasing and decreasing quite traumatic :rotfl: Still, I'm really looking forward to the finished article :j Definately going to do Mrs Claus as well, although probably not till next year.
Just noticed this post after my little update, Have you any tips for me getting his eyes done. I am OK with all the knitting bits its the bloomin sewing bits I hate;)

Hi Seakay, In the end, i decided to add some more rows of beads.....now you all know where my name came from. :rotfl:

So, after the first beading row, I purled..beaded another row..purled....beaded a third row.....no mean feat when there is 1050 stitches and I'm adding a teeny tiny bead every 6 stitches.
I am now purling for the last time...before I start the picot cast off....which I think will be a mammoth task.
But, the scarf does look very nice..I think my mum is angling for one for Christmas, in which case, I'll just do the one lot of beads...;)

I want to make a start on the cast off tonight...so hopefully piccies very soon.

  • Cazarol - I just followed what the instructions said - it was quite simple really (after reading it a few times :o ). I've been so busy this week I haven't managed to do anymore, and I've got a busy weekend (DD's 9th birthday weekend) so it looks like I won't be doing any till next week. I'm not at the stage where I can sit and relax yet ;)
Squares knitted for my throw ~ 90 (yes!!! I have finally finished it :rotfl: )
Squares made for my patchwork quilt ~ 80 (only the "actual" quilting to do now :rotfl:)

I've gone for it, and taken my time. Nearly there now.
Does anyone have instructions on how to upload a picci, think I may be ready to reveal by Saturday evening!! Oh he is lovely
