Ok I drop in and out of this thread as I don't consider myself a "real" knitter, but am I feeling so pleased with myself I had to share it with people who would understand! My mum taught me to knit some years ago when I was pregnant and housebound, but all she taught me was to knit and to purl, but not even to cast on. I knitted baby blankets from a Prima pattern but have never knitted anything else. Before christmas, inspired by you folk, I used the recommended videos to teach myself to cast on, and made a scarf for my (extremely unappreciative ) friend for Christmas. I then started on a furry shawl. My niece asked if I'd ever made anything that wasn't "just a square of material" and I said no but was building up to it. So...in about a week, I've managed to make a jacket!!! :j With sleeves, and bands, and a collar in a different yarn, and buttons (but no button holes as it's knitted in Sirdar Bigga and suggests just using the holes in the weave for button holes). I mean, sleeves! I made armholes, and sleeves!!! I'm so proud of myself!
Thank you all for the inspiration.
Now I think I'd better go and lie down in a darkened room...

N Oooo, go and sit down and KNIT SOME MORE ! lol ! You can make a short lenght of scarf then turn it into a bag by sewing up the sides, and then knit a long strap....0

Hi all
Does anyone have a free pattern for knitted cupcakes or can you point me in the direction of one you recommend? I've found some to buy on the internet but wondered if there were any free patterns out there? I work with children who are struggling with mathematics and want to knit some for my 'shop'. Thank you....0 -

Just thought I'd let people know that I was in my local poundland store today (manchester city center) and they have Glamour by Erica Knight for 1 pound !!! the rrp is 12.99. Its a wonderful book and the patterns are lovely. They usually sell pretty much the same thing in every poundland store so it might be worth having a look in if there is one near you0
