Re pompoms, I have traumatic memories of school knitting and I wont ever do a hat that requires one.
I should sue that school for post traumatic stress, I still have bl00dy flashbacks0 -

This seems to be hard to get, and quite expensive and I wondered if anyone could recommend an alternative? The wool is quite fine, but slightly shiny and soft...as you can see I am a very technical knitter!!! Thanks for any help you can give!
Keep checking the Kemps website - I was talking to the owner last time I was in and he is hoping to do a deal to sell Rowan clearance yarns at the same sort of price as their other well known brands :T:T:T.Some people hear voices, some see invisible people. Others have no imagination whatsoever

Hi all, after a couple of failed attempts on the internet patterns, I went to Boyes today and bought a pattern for a baby shawl.. Trouble already and really would appreciate some help. Looking at the pattern it looks like I am gonna lose stiches ??
Its an 8 row pattern and a couple of abbreviations arent clear to me:
kyf
yrn
Also it requires 225 stitches, can i do it with only say 125 stitches??
Many many thanks xHe who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

yrn... is yarn around needle.
kyf... could this be knit yarn forward? not sure on this one !!
Yrn round needle creates a stitch so you shouldnt lose stitches really.Feeding 6 Adults 1 Teen a 8 year old with hollow legs and a very fussy 5 year old. Also 3 cats and 3 fishies

Oh my goodness, here I go again needing some help please!
I have nearly finished a jumper for DH and am supposed to be doing the neckband which is V neck. Pattern says....
Pick up and knit 32 stitches on left side neck, knit stitch left on safety pin in centre of V, pick up and knit 32 stitches on right side of neck and 28 from cast off stitches at back of neck.
My question is, do I pick up all of these stitches first and then knit them or am I supposed to knit them immediately I pick them up? Is the pattern just written in the 3 sections in order to make sure they are evenly spaced? I have managed to pick up the first lot OK (thank you tutorials via google!) but am thinking that if I pick them all up and then knit them my V will look flat but think this must be what I need to do. Can some kind-hearted soul advise please?
I am determined that this does not turn into a "comedy jumper" but have never attempted anything with much shaping before - think this must show in my questions! Thanks for taking the time to read.0 -
Hi everyone, newbie here
After reading this thread yesterday, and bored of doing my cross stitch which is taking forever, I thought I would have a go at knitting!
Went to Wilkinsons and got some needles and 3 balls of furry wool, and have made a start on a scarf. Took a while to work out how to 'cast on' but finally got it!
Have just started on the third ball of wool (my finger is sore from constantly prodding the needle into it so now stopping for tonight!), so hopefully will finish tomorrow :j
Going to try a hat next, not sure how successful that will be!

Well done Happy
I reckon knitting is a great Winter pastime, curled up in front of the fire;) ! I love x stitch too, but get bored of doing the same thing for too long. I've got one huge x stitch (pic over on the x st thread) that took 7 years  to finish (I did do a lot of other things in the meantime though!) My DH says I'm a butterfly but when did you see one that weighed over 16 st! :rotfl:
Love to all knitters and stitchers
