Hi Craftlady - these are fantastic :T . Where did you find the pattern? They'd be great to add to list of HM pressies for next Christmas. For anyone wondering about how HM pressies might be received, I was delighted with the reaction to mine  - if in doubt, go for it! In the current climate I reckon we'll all be getting and receiving them in the future.
Love to all virtual friends

Its gonna be tricky cos
1) She is a young mum and would probably only like clothes from Next lol
2) My late foster mum used to sew the garments together for me but she's not here anymore and I will stuggle..
Anyway, I need to do something cos I am fed up on a night.... be back in the near future for help, and hopefully a pic of the finished article!!! x
Don't be so sure she won't like the knitted stuff.
My DD was only 16 when she had DGD and I thought the same as you, but she loved my handknitted baby clothes. How does a brown cow give white milk, when it only eats green grass?0 -

I'm doing a patchwork blanket too. It probably won't be finished until the winter ahead but thats ok.
My advice is don't leave sewing them together until the end. Do it everytime you've knitted 8 or 10 squares.
Makes it less of a task and you get to see your blanket "evolving" as you go along :THow does a brown cow give white milk, when it only eats green grass?0 -

Aeshna I bought '200 knitted blocks' by Jan Eaton'
http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=200+knitted+blocks&!!!!!googhydr-21&index=stripbooks&hvadid=3113694769&ref=pd_sl_3q7e5xdfkb_e
The pages at the back show you how to cast on/off and various stitches, so good for beginners.
Happy Knitting!:j
Thanks so much skinnygirlnot, that looks great!

Thanks for that tip miserly_mum, I had thought about knitting loads of squares then trying to figure out where they were all to go, as I want to do lots of different colours, that way our bedroom won't be tied to a colour scheme. But I can see the sense in this - if I dont do it as I go along, I may well end up hating the thought of having to sit and sew them all together!! What size needles do you recommend for the blanket?
I'm using up my fluffy wool on a scarf right now, but I'm going to head out to the charity shops at the weekend and see if I can pick up some odd wool balls for my patchwork. I've also checked with Mum who says she still has my Nana's crochet needles tucked away somewhere, so she's going to look them out for me! Yay, I'm going to be verrrry busy!! Actually, I think Mum might be a little worried about how domesticated I've suddenly become. :rotfl:

I'm usng DK and size 7 needles and 30 stitches so the squares knit up quite quickly.
Did a blanket for my 3 year old for snuggling on the sofa using these size squares and it turned out really well. How does a brown cow give white milk, when it only eats green grass?0 -
