Re knitting your pattern in chunky rather than dk: What is it about this particular pattern that you like? If it's the fair isle design, then would you be happy with it in a different size? - if you use chunky, the design will come out "bigger", if you see what I mean. If that's okay with you, what I'd suggest is finding a pattern for a similarly-shaped hat in chunky, then using the number of stitches and the decreases etc for that along with your fair isle design - how many stitches in the chunky pattern, how many stitches in the fair isle design, and working out a way to combine the two. If you want me to have a look at the pattern on Ravelry and see what could be done, send me the link :-)

Thanks very much for that useful link, I'll definitely have a look and book mark it for future reference. This is the pattern I was thinking of: http://yarnzombie.net/patterns/Lillehammer.pdf although as you can see from this link: http://www.ravelry.com/projects/elocin/ring-of-fire it's been knitted in one of those colour changing yarns. I have a couple of half balls of Fusion in 'capiscum' (red/orange/yellow) and (I think) 'fennel' (green/blue/turquoise) that I thought might work well with black used as the contrast. I tried just casting on the same number of stitches as in the pattern in the hope that a slightly bigger size would still be okay, but it is just too big - might make a stylish tea cosy, but too big even for my head :rotfl:. If you can suggest a way round this it would be great - if not then not to worry, but thanks for offering just the same.

    Cheers :T

I picked up a copy of 'Knitting' in the supermarket today and the free gift is a set of six stitch markers. There's also a lovely pattern for a side slip cloche hat, that looks very 'Poirot ;) and a kiddies Nordic sweater pattern done on circular needles.

The other thing you could do if you don't want to stitch your squares together is to use the modular knitting technique. This is a link to a book that you can actually look inside to see how it is done if you haven't come across this before. I hadn't and I would do anything rather than stitch up _pale_. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Domino-Knitting-Vivian-Hoxbro/dp/193149911X/ref=pd_sim_b_2

    Hope it helps.

Wow that's great, I haven't seen that before where they'll let you take a look inside the book! I know what you mean about stitching up, it never was a strong point with me, and that was about 25 years ago, I don't suppose it'll have grown on me!! Thanks again Unity.

I got a WHSmith Voucher Card at xmas, so I'll take myself off there sometime soon and see if I can get find the books recommended to me. In the meantime, I was very MS and took myself off up to the local library, they seem to have lots of books available, I didn't really know where to start! However, I've come away with Stitch 'n Bi*ch as I saw that recommended earlier on in the thread. Now, just need to take the time to read it through! Finished off my fluffy (Eskimo) scarf for my sister-out-of-law so I'm rather pleased to have something to show for my efforts, even if it was simple enough for a 5 year old to do!!

I just noticed I made a mistake about 10cm down in a fairly fiddly aran knit.. I knitted across part of a cable on the reverse side instead of purl.. easily done as just about no 2 rows are the same .. the repeat is over 28 rows and it's more than a repeat away. I have decided just to leave it at it gives it a bit of 'hand-jnitted' authenticity in my book lol .. just wondered what the rest of you would do ? Are you all perfectionists ?

Actually it'd be pretty hard to frog successfully given the pattern.. so wasn't a hard decision for me !

    Hi HLK

I'm in the process of knitting a pretty simple cardigan pattern that I have started on the various sections about 4 times where I have made little mistakes but then again I am a bit of a perfectionist, although if the pattern was as complicated as you say yours is I would probably do the same, although the perfectionist part of me would probably tell me to start again (I would just have to find some way of shutting her up :rotfl: )

I'd do the same as you - but it'd bug me insanely! Trying to become more laid back - it's a must given my (poor) knitting skills - or is it concentration skills? Either way mine are less than I would like!
