Mrs MC...was wondering about black sheep wool...is it a type of wool or a site?...then I decided that if I would only knit half the wool I have I wouldn't need to know for quite a while!!

I have had a look at this pattern and think it is easy enough for me to follow. I'm not too offay (sp?) with different types of wool apart from 4 ply and DK so would I be able to knit this pattern in say an aran wool? Or any other suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hi All,

Delighted to find this thread for us knitters!
    I have found this website:-
    http://www.garnstudio.com/index_lang.php
Under each pattern they’ve indicated the knitting tension (in number of stitches/10 cm) so that suggested yarn may be replaced by yarn with a similar knitting tension.
New designs are constantly uploaded (and you can search the website for new ones) and...wait for it...they're free to download! Also, as if this wasn't wonderful enough, you can see comments from people who've knitted the pattern and chat in their Forum: how helpful!

Hi BBP, just to say that I had another delve into Ravelry and found a pattern http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/wedge-hat
that I am using as the basis for my hat - since it uses chunky. I'm experimenting as I go and enjoying the new-found freedom given by this pattern - although I do have to keep logging on to other links for various bits to find out how to do them:rolleyes:.
    We live and learn :D.

Well, I know this was one of those 'organic patterns' where the project grows as you go - but this one was like a Russian Vine - it grew enormous without watering ;). It's far too big - unless anyone knows a Rastafarian with lots of dreadlocks they need to accommodate :rotfl:. However once I am in the mood to unravel it back to a decent size - I will be able to write a pattern out for future reference. The good thing about it is that the Fusion yarn worked the way I expected (lovely effect).

I got my two Elizabeth Zimmermann books from the USA this morning "Knitting Workshop" and "Knitting Around", so I am looking forward to learning how to knit a circular sweater with set in sleeves - but no seams, a big step for me as I am still very much a novice at the old circulars ;).
Some people hear voices, some see invisible people. Others have no imagination whatsoever :D
  • Well my good intentions of finishing one thing before starting another haven't lasted. I finished knitting my little black top on Tuesday, just need to sew up and do the neckband. Got home from work at 8.30 last night and decided to knit the tension square for my next project, a lovely chunky pink jumper for me (using one of my Readicut pot lucks) Then decided I'd just cast on and do the four rows of garter stitch! When I eventually went to bed at midnight I'd knitted a whole ball of wool and the back is 6 inches long.

My excuse is I need daylight to pick up for the neckband as the top is black, so I will do it on Sunday afternoon.

I did sew up a handbag I finished on Christmas day on Tuesday evening, because I wanted to use it that night. Have another one the same, but a little bit smaller, to finish which is a present for a friend because she loved my one - all goes towards being money neutral - and I used up three balls of wool that weren't much good for anything else.

    Will post pics soon x

Just thought I'd let people know - I was reviewing a new place for qype yesterday and came across a craft shop in a Sussex town that was selling hand knitted finger puppets - pretty elaborate actually, and admittedly they were Fair Trade from Peru - but, they were £2.50 each. Thats quite a lot!

    Hello Everyone

I use to knit an awful lot, several years ago, but haven't touched it for a long time, so no longer have as many patterms and equipment that I had back then. I wondered if anyone can tell me if I can still get my hands on the wool used to knit these sweaters that were around back then?

I can remember the top part was knitted using circular needles, wasn't that right??

Can anyone help or is anyone still knitting these?

    Thanks

    Sally
  • Hiya

anyone got advice on how to track down a specific dye lot? I bought some Debbie Bliss Cathay in a sale last year, also bought on ebay some of the same shade. Thought I'd be OK but the side by side comparison shows up the different dye lots. Any advice much appreciated.

More on the Angel Yarns saga - I wrote to Sirdar (who supplied Angel Yarns) to advise that I've now got Trading Standards on the case and Sirdar replied that they are no longer stocking Angel Yarns. So ..... if you're on their website and decide to buy anything Sirdar from them - don't! They definitely don't have it in stock and like me, you'll be waiting. And waiting. And waiting.
