Hello :hello:,
Just wondering if we have any circular knitters here? I got a set of the Denise needles from the States which are basically short needles with detachable cords that you can use as circular or straight needles - this link probably explains it betterhttp://www.knitdenise.com/ . They're great if you have arthritis as the weight of the knitting is on the cord which just lies in your lap.
I've been busy adapting old patterns to knit in the round as I hate stitching up - but I wanted to ask if anyone knows a way of knitting sweaters with set-in sleeves without seams - or can't it be done? Obviously it is easy to knit a raglan sleeved sweater without seams - but at present (with set-in sleeves) I knit the body and sleeves of the sweater up to the armhole and then change to conventional knitting. I therefore have seams at the shoulders and where the sleeves join.
Many thanks for any advice.
Hello All,
Been lurking on this thread for a while and the mention of circular/knitting in the round has persuaded me to say hello! Afraid I can't help with the set in sleeves but did want to share this pattern. I don't get much time to knit but these little elephants and giraffes are great for kids (and big kids!) and I have made loads of them. Great for anyone who wants to learn to knit in the round and for using up your stash as the patterns don't rely on certain types of wool or needle sizes...You can also literally halve the patterns to make mini versions...I have half versions written down somewhere if anyone needs the stitch counts etc.

Thank you for that - I have a three-year-old who is giraffe-mad; he'll be delighted if I ever get round to knitting him one of those! :-)
Re stuffing toys etc - I've found that it's often cheaper to buy cheap cushion inners (the thing you'd buy if you were making cushion-covers) and to use the stuffing from those rather than buying bags of actual stuff sold for stuffing, iyswim. Of course, cheapest of all is to use old pillows etc that are too worn out for proper use anymore :-)0 -
I've posted this on the Crafty for Christmas thread but thought some of you would like it, too. It's a pattern for a gorgeous reindeer. http://www.lulu.com/content/1339201KNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:

Thanks for this I'd had a look on Amazon and although there were second hand copies available via Amazon Marketplace, they were over £40 . I managed to order one from the States for $18, so can't complainSome people hear voices, some see invisible people. Others have no imagination whatsoever

I've been up to my loft today and looked at the wool that I have lying there. Most of it was bought when I was a good deal smaller so would not do a full garment for me now. I was planning to knit with 2 strands of wool. I seem to remember that 2 strands of double knitting make chunky and 2 strands of 4 ply make arran. Does anyone know if that is correct?
Thanks in advance.0 -
Sounds about right to me Always Harassed...good luck

I wonder if their courrier is snowed under? - I know when I rang they had that many orders being sorted out I had to ring back  ....
My stuff has to be taken to the PO... so it might have got taken out of the way (last time they tried to courrier it to a similar address in the uk -so they probably dealt with mine whilst they remembered)
Hope yours gets to you soon :T
When I was in last week, they had just had a delivery - but were waiting for more to arrive - plus they are in the middle of negotiations for a popular brandthat's usually very expensive  so I will keep popping in. I don't want to mention which brand it is just in case it doesn't come off. I also noticed there was a note on the site saying there might be slight delays with some orders.
I don't know if others have problems finding modern patterns for men, but they have a book in at present "Patons Inca for Men" which has 22 styles - including sweaters, zip up tops, hats and scarves http://www.kempswoolshop.com/pattern_books_details.aspx?SelectedItemID=678471305&desc=Inca%C2%A0Mens%C2%A0Book%C2%A01232 . Plus the yarn 'Inca' (rrp £3.95) is on offer at 69p http://www.kempswoolshop.com/search.aspx - it's knitting up really well - unlike this 'Pompom' I got just before Christmas http://www.kempswoolshop.com/wool_details.aspx?selectedItemID=172348036 plus it smells very musty - even after washing and using a good fabric conditioner. Still the person who never made a mistake, never made anything and at 59p a ball it wasn't an expensive mistake;).Some people hear voices, some see invisible people. Morning all ..I have just posted this on the xmas 2009 thread -but thought I would pop it here too
my latest project... Its not finished yet..I have just poked the fabric through the handles to see what it will look like... I need to sew it up and line it..
Its for my eldest niece and Im lining it using some of the spare fabric leftover from when my mum made her bridesmaid dress for my wedding :T money saving -plus she is a sentimental thing
The colours don't show up true on the picture..its deeper and richer in real life
I really thought I would struggle with the wool -but I loved it.. so much so that I am tempted to make some to see if they would sell :rotfl:
So thats 7 xmas pressies done -well nearly :j-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50
