Can anyone help me please?
The cheap shop near where I live has started to sell packs of 10 balls of faux fur novelty wool and 8mm needles for £5. Over Christmas I knitted my daughter a couple of lovely long scarves and they look very expensive and luxurious.
I now fancy having a go at knitting a shrug for me. I am going to a party in a fortnight and would like to knit one in time to wear for that. Can anyone, please point me in the direction of a nice easy pattern? (Preferably a free one)

Thank you for your help Lolcat. I went shopping yesterday and found a pattern in the sales, so I'm going to have a go at knitting that one instead it is 03407 the second one down on the right.
I am teaching my daughter how to knit. So once she has managed to knit herself a scarf, I think the pattern you found will be easy enough for her to have a go at.Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times and I'll smash your face in.0 -
I just started knitting again a few months ago and have made my parents cardigans for Xmas, several cardis and jumpers for myself. 33 hats for Save teh children, two lots of baby clothes and about a dozen pairs of childrens mittens which the Cats Protection Shop are selling to raise money. Found a couple of excellent sites:
http://www.knittingpatterncentral.com/
This is a free knitting pattern directory with loads of unusual patterns. Its an American site so you need to convert wool and needles sizes though.
http://www.cpu-enterprises.com/
I buy my wool from here at wholesale prices. Delivery is £2.50 for any amount but I tend to order enough for a couple of garments in one go. I love the Stylecraft Aran with wool 400g balls, go a very long way, and Stylecraft Special DK. The James C Brett baby wool is great, 200g for £2.60 and loads of colours.0 -

I only started knitting again a couple of months ago and have so far made a cushion cover, four handbags and a big chunky jacket that I finished last night. Even sewed it together! Tried it on (over my pj's) and it was a perfect fit. Knitted a tension square for my next project which I will start on the train journey to Manchester at the weekend.

Hi all you lovely knitters. A very happy new year to you all.:)
I have just bought more wool despite my big stash. I am knitting a lovely baby blanket from a Debbie Bliss book which I bought last year. wool is so expensive though isn't it? But there is nothing as nice as knitting for someone's baby or your self. I love to sit down at night with my jammies on after my shower and a mug of tea, fleece over my knees and knit while watching the t.v I find it very relaxing as well. I joined a knitting group in my town last year and we knit for a charity and enjoyed doing it. We just come and knit and chat and always have a good laugh, and have a 15 minute break for a cuppa. It lasts for two hours and it is very theraputic too. We are all different ages which makes it even more fun. I was ill so missed going for about a month but all being well, I shall be on the bus with my knitting bag on Friday heading to my group.:) We will be choosing a different charity to help. We knit loads of wee hats for the Save the children project and loads of blankets too. Happy knitting.Do a little kindness every day.;)0 -
Hey girls .... don't forget charity shops for wool. I've had some great bargains. OK sometimes it might just be odd balls that people have had left over but I've had Jaeger Merino wool (made into wristwarmes for friend for Xmas and she loved them). Over the last couple of winters I've made 2 huge throws from crocheted granny squares which came entirely from bits & bobs from charity shops.
Just make sure if you're doing big projects like this that the wool needs to be same weight (eg DK) and that it all washes the same (ie machine for ease).
I've had lovely expensive cotton yarns and made summer bags and tops and I had 4 balls of Rowan Kidsilk and that was gorgeous.
This winter I've knitted/crocheted:- several scarves and wristwarmers/fingerless gloves as gifts, a couple of capelets (for myself) a few hats, some baby items, a knee blanket, a neck warmer, a pair of thick socks and am just doing a beret.
Also don't forget charity shops and jumble sales/car boots for handknitted items which you can unpick and reknit.;) I bought a very strange-looking scarf for 25p because I recgnised the yarn as Colinette (which is pretty expensive) unpicked and made a much nicer one!!0
