thanks for answering know exactly what you mean but, the jumper is only already a small 36" so cant really go any smaller. i guess i could try a kids one if i could find one? i know i cant use smaller nedles as tried before like you say and it comes out like carpet texture so thats no good. is there a general rule of thumb for people like me who knit big. like i said am making a throw on 4mm needles and each one i have completed is in different pattern and they have all come out in different sizes, so what do i do?
I have been thinking about this. First don't go down to kids patterns as they have different proportions. Could you knit in double rib knit 2 purl 2 as that would take an item in a lot but still have room to move. I used to have a pattern for a double rib sweater for men and women but must have given it to someone as I can't find it. You could just take an ordinary pattern and instead of stocking stitch just rib knit 2 purl 2 and that should be ok. But change the starting rib to k2p2 as well.

I recently found a knitting pattern on the internet, and foolishly didn't bookmark it! I wonder if any of you have seen/know where I can find a pattern for a gorgeous knitted red coat with a hood, with raised leaves and flowers knitted down the back, from hood to heel? The front is all plain.....any help would be much appreciated!!

Have a look in your history.. if you can remember roughly when you saw it ,it may still be in there.. oh and if you find it .. please post a link its ounds lovely.;)

Hi .. wonder ifanyone can give advice re substituting Debbie Bliss Rialto DK for Rialto Aran DK. the pattern says 4mm needles but the aran states 5mm kneedles. If followed the pattern woud it be OK? It's a Cable V neck free pattern from Prma website. Also would I need to order an extra ball ?
Sorry this seems such a thick question and I should be able to work it out myself but haven't been knitting fora few years.

I'm a bit confused, is the Aran still DK weight or is it Aran weight? If it's Aran you'll end up with a bigger garment. This article from Knitty should help.

  • Have just discovered this thread and plan to sit down at the weekend and read all 63 pages! Have just started knitting again after nearly 20 years. I started off with a cushion, then 2 scarves, 2 handbags, the Alan Dart Santa from Simply Knitting (he's sooooo cute) and a matinee jacket for a work colleagues baby. Have just started the first garment for me. It's knitted with four strands of wool on 15mm needles, so grows rather quickly. Hoping to have it finished by Christmas. Just wanted to say Hi and I look forward to chatting over the next few months.

  • I spotted this vintage tea cosy but it is very expensive and would prefer to knit it.

Have searched a few sites trying to find a similar pattern, as it says based on a vintage design, but no luck.
    Does anyone recognise the pattern?
    Thank you.
