Hiya all you knitters! What an amazing site this is!
I`ve just got back into knitting and have found lots of leftover yarn i want to use up. I have just done some gloves for my grandson and have now the knitting bug again.
Would love to try and do some socks
Anyone have a tried and tested sock pattern? Or direct me to an EASYish one!!
thankyou :beer:0 -
I may be a bit late but to pixeypie, this is the first thing I knitted, finished it a couple of weeks ago. I added a bobble and DS loves it! http://www.aokcorral.com/projects/how2sept2004.htm. was really good to actually make something as I, like you, had spent quite a long time just knitting then undoing and not getting anywhere. I am going on to make to handwarmers from ravelry (fantastic site join join join!) and have a long christmas list of wool and needles!!!0

Thanks for the help re the balaclava

I managed to find some really old patterns on Ebid (well I can remember them from when my girls were small 30 years ago!)
I've nearly finished one of them and its working out fine...doing it in a chunky wool...and on 2 needles. My eldest DD is thrilled with it
Only another 4 to go!
Oh I do love knitting :T I'd forgotten how relaxing it can be.A family that eats together, stays together

i have always had the bad habit of never knitting a tension square as i have no patience and if i get bee in my bonnet i just have to get going with it. however i have made a couple of jumpers that did come out bigger than intended. i was never sure if i knitted bigger stitches than everyone else or if it was because other than my first project 20 years ago in my youth i always use different wool than described as it is always so expensive. i did knit my ex husband a jumper last christmas that did end up 3 sizes bigger than he is. i wish now i had knitted him a scarf so when he walked out 6 weeks ago never to be heard from since i would have wrapped it very tightly around his neck and not let go. but thats another story. so anyway i have bought some aran wool as my son now wants a similar jumper but in a polo nexk so the tension square was to knit in 4mm needles a sample 26sts/32 rows in 5x3 rib that should have measured 4 inches but it measured 5 inches so what should i use am meant to use 3mm for first 2 inches of jumper than 4mm for rest but working on my sample ehat size should i use?0

I think you've answered your own question there - "the tension square was to knit in 4mm needles..." :-)0 -
I have always knit too big and have learnt over the years to knit several sizes too small. Pattern size 36" fits me fine as a 44" and I remember to just knit longer sleeves. I gave up knitting sample squares too check my tension as it usually means I have to knit with smaller needles and that makes the item comes out of the wash differently if you know what I mean. Hated it when I used smaller needles and then the item shrunk in the wash.i have always had the bad habit of never knitting a tension square as i have no patience and if i get bee in my bonnet i just have to get going with it. however i have made a couple of jumpers that did come out bigger than intended. i was never sure if i knitted bigger stitches than everyone else or if it was because other than my first project 20 years ago in my youth i always use different wool than described as it is always so expensive. i did knit my ex husband a jumper last christmas that did end up 3 sizes bigger than he is. i wish now i had knitted him a scarf so when he walked out 6 weeks ago never to be heard from since i would have wrapped it very tightly around his neck and not let go. but thats another story. so anyway i have bought some aran wool as my son now wants a similar jumper but in a polo nexk so the tension square was to knit in 4mm needles a sample 26sts/32 rows in 5x3 rib that should have measured 4 inches but it measured 5 inches so what should i use am meant to use 3mm for first 2 inches of jumper than 4mm for rest but working on my sample ehat size should i use?0 -
My daughter wants me to knit her a scarf, shes only 10 & loves the fun fur type ones, but I fancied a change. Well I found a great scarf pattern here...http://www.mistialpaca.com/downloads/ribs_ruffles_scarf.pdf but it uses Misty chunky baby alpaca yarn. Now we're going to town to choose some wool but I have no idea what I can use instead of this
Does anyone know anything I could get quite easily as an alternative? Thanks in advance. 0 -
i would suggest you can use any type chunky woolenjoy life, we only get one chance at it:)0
