Thanks for that Shazrobo, I was wondering about using any chunky wool but I fancy something thats a bit fluffy. I rang my local shop & they suggested Patons spirit that knits up on 6 or 7mm needles, it's a mohair, do you think that would be ok?0

yes i think that would be lovely, a nice warm fluffy scarfenjoy life, we only get one chance at it:)0

Right thats me sorted then, I'll find that wool on Ebay, will be much cheaper than local shop. Thanks again Shazrobo :beer:0

Afternoon all
My first venture onto this thread...and Im after some help -pleassssse
I have decided to knit my hubby a set of golf club covers -the dafter the better with my hubby :rotfl: ...
Now Im stuck trying to find a pattern -I keep finding free ones on line but they list "worsted" thread -which I have looked up so I get what it is... but I'm confudled as to if it is 3ply 4ply DK etc
....So has anyone had a pattern (and can tell me where to buy one from) or put me out of my misery and tell me what thickness I need -oh the pattern I have seen on line uses 3.75 needles if that helps
thankyou so much in advance
-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
worsted is usaully taken as DK mrs mac..0

Derrrr why didn't I just think to ask you in the first place? :rotfl:
Thanks for that Mardatha....lets see how the 1st one comes out shall we

Actually if the needle size is 3.75, you might get away with 4 ply...you'd be better to knit a swatch first just to be sure.

I recently found a knitting pattern on the internet, and foolishly didn't bookmark it! I wonder if any of you have seen/know where I can find a pattern for a gorgeous knitted red coat with a hood, with raised leaves and flowers knitted down the back, from hood to heel? The front is all plain.....any help would be much appreciated!!:A FLY FIRST, KNIT LATER :A0

I have always knit too big and have learnt over the years to knit several sizes too small. Pattern size 36" fits me fine as a 44" and I remember to just knit longer sleeves. I gave up knitting sample squares too check my tension as it usually means I have to knit with smaller needles and that makes the item comes out of the wash differently if you know what I mean. Hated it when I used smaller needles and then the item shrunk in the wash.
thanks for answering know exactly what you mean but, the jumper is only already a small 36" so cant really go any smaller. i guess i could try a kids one if i could find one? i know i cant use smaller nedles as tried before like you say and it comes out like carpet texture so thats no good. is there a general rule of thumb for people like me who knit big. like i said am making a throw on 4mm needles and each one i have completed is in different pattern and they have all come out in different sizes, so what do i do?0 -
