I saw a small knitted witch, ghost, pumpkin cat and cauldron on ebay and thought I could probably manage to knit them myself. Having searched the web I think they are probably made from a Jean Greenhowe pattern. But as I live in Spain I can't get them out here. has anyone knitted something similar and could you give me an idea of how to start or even (dare I say it) email the knitting details. Thanx

Sandy - there is a witch in Jean Greenhowes "Little Gift Dolls" do you have the basic doll pattern and I could give you the extra bits??? PM me....

I knitted a small pumpkin years ago for a playmat I made for the kids...now I'm not sure where that pattern came from....I'll have a look!

    Regards

    Kate.
  • Hi there

When I went up to HQ today for a meeting I took the opportunity to pop in to the only decent wool shop as I wanted white wool to knit Halloween ghosts! I happened to mention to the lady who owns the shop that I only tend to knit Jean's stuff these days. She mentioned that she no longer sells the patterns as she died about a year ago! I find this strange as I was only on her web site the other day and downloaded free patterns. Google does not mention that she is no longer here!

    Anyone enlighten me?

I have two little girl, about 9/10 years old, neighbours. I want to knit them something for Christmas. I thought hat, scarf and wristlet sets.

They are both dark haired - what would be a good colour and anyone got any ideas for patterns?
  • Could anyone help me please? I have a striped scarf knitting pattern, it was a download from the internet and I don't really understand it. I have googled for some of the terms, but I am getting confused, I think it must be American terms used. Firstly I thought wool came in particular types like double knitting etc, but this just says 150g ball of Yeomans Yarns? Does anyone know what wool I could use and does it really matter for a scarf? It then goes on and says "the entire scarf is knitted in g-st"?. I thought it was knit or pearl (don't think I can do any other stitches anyway!) It says cast on 50 sts. Then Row 1 - k, (ok I understand that) then Row 2 - K1,M1, K22, K2tog, k2tog, K22,M1,K1, what is M1?

    garter st.....all knit.
MI is make 1 stitch, just knit the strand between the 2 needles to make a st.
What size needles does it use ??
  • Thank you for your advice mardatha, it says size 6 US/4mm needles and size 5 US/3.75mm. What would you suggest I use?

you can get 4mm here, and the 3.75, is that for the rib? You can get them here, its metric sizes.:)
  • Sandy,

If you PM me your email address I can send you a copy of the Jean Greenhowe Jiffy Knits patterns, which has the items you are looking for and some other Hallowean/Christmas/Easter/Other patterns.

  • I don't really know, it says to use 4mm to cast on and for the next 12 rows then change to 3.75mm and Midas? Knit the Midas with 2 strands throughout scarf. Repeat next 2 rows 6 times then change to 4mm.

Under materials it says 150g ball of each of Yeoman Yarns, Sport in 4 Red, 24 Royal, 23 Emerald, 156 Tangerine, 20 Oatmeal and 150g ball of Yeoman Yarns, Fifty Fifty in 8 Midas (yellow).

I am guessing that the yellow needs different needles? I think this pattern is looking more and more difficult for me, I might just get some different coloured wools and make a normal stripy scarf instead of this one that is a V-shaped pattern. What wool and needles would you suggest for a basic stripy scarf for a very newbie knitter please mardatha?
