Oooo Rach - another big thank you. We made up the yogurt using 'your' method, and although the children found it a little sharp - its a big hit. It was fantastic.... and soooooo easy!

I found this with the non - sachet method too, but I've been experimenting and found that if you leave it in the yoghurt maker for less time it's much less sharp - my latest attempt is 5 hours and it's still thick enough ( I like a Greek yoghurty texture ) - that's with 4 tablespoons of Marvel equivalent in there. I also sweetened my earlier attempts with sugar but the 5 hour one didn't seem to need it.I'm going to keep reducing the time each time I make it - trial and error! ( My first attempt was overnight and it was like sucking a lemon!!! )0 -
i agree with Rosy, i have found 6 hours preferable to 8 hours.

I have read through all these posts and have treated myself to an Easiyo maker. We have 2 children who get through 2 yoghurts each a day so hopefully it should work out cost effective and we can smuggle even more fruit into them by mixing in purees!
I tried it last night and was diappointed this morning to find my "yoghurt" exactly as I left it last night. It smells of yoghurt but still has the same consistency as milk.
I thought I'd let you know exactly what I did and maybe someone could let me know where I went wrong. The trouble with not using the easiyo mixes is that there's no 'official' line on how to do it without.
I warmed 1 litre whole UHT milk in the microwave until it was warm and I could hold my finger in for 10/15 seconds without yelping.
I mixed in a tbsp of skimmed milk powder and added a couple of tbsp of low fat natural bio yoghurt from Aldi and shook it so it was well mixed.
I filled the flask with boiling water to the top of the dodah inside. This meant the flask was sitting in the water when I put it in. (This was the bit I wasn't sure about.)
I did all this at 8pm last night and 12 hours later, it's still the same. Not curdled or horrible smelling. Just exactly the same!
I hope someone will be able to point me in the right direction. Thanks!

any ideas for me, i use 1ltr semi skimmed and 3 tblespns of powdered skimmed milk, with 2 tblespns of muller probiotic (got the lidl one to try too) and had it in airing cupboard with the normal level of boiling water for about 6.5-7hrs.
Problem is, its rather runny, creamy enough, but too runny, i like it thick, any ideas what i could do to keep it mild and creamy?0 -

Flat rate postage of £5.99 is a bit expensive. Not sure how it will compare to www.yogurtdirect.co.uk ... the prices are a bit more, but delivery is free when you spend £30 and, if you go above £50, you also get 10% off. Mine comes out thick enough almost to stand a spoon in it - I don't know which bit of the recipe makes it like that but I use 1 ltr full fat milk, 4 well rounded tablespoons powdered skimmed milk ( I think that might be the magic ingredient for thickness, but not sure ) 2 tablespoons of thick Greek yoghurt as the "starter" and leave it in the Easiyo maker just on the worksurface not in the airing cupboard for 5 hours. ( When I left it longer it got too sharp tasting, but the shorter time doesn't seem to make it less thick ).0
