Hi, Desperate Housewife,
You certainly don't have to use UHT. I do just to save scalding the milk first. You can use UHt straight from the carton, but with fresh milk you have to scald it (bring it almost to the boil) and then wait for it to cool to 49 degrees c (I think).0 -
Can anyone help me? I am at my wits end. I have been using an easiyo yoghurt maker and sachets for approx 4 months. I make approx 2 per week. They have always turned out really well . Well for the last 2 weeks they having been setting at all but I am not doing anything different. I have wasted 5 packets of yoghurt already. Any ideas?

I had this with my yoghurt maker. I soaked it overnight in Milton solution and it was fine again after that. I guess it just needed a super clean! :j0 -
I am tempted by the Easiyo (and then using UHT milk etc instead of the sachets) but my DH thinks I will poison everyone. Is this likely?
Also, do children like homemade yoghurt? Mine love strawberry/raspberry ones from the shops (children's ones, so probably quite sweet) and I don't want to buy the Easiyo thing if they won't eat it. If you give it to them to take for their lunch, do you put it in little pots like little Lock and locks, or do you have to get special ones?
Any advice gratefully received!0 -

Nah!! Otherwise we'd all have been poisoned by now!!It really is very nice. Mine has lasted a lot less this week than normal yoghurt does!!!

I know that some people put pureed fruit in it to make their own strawberry/raspberry ones. You could put some sweetner in it as well to sweeten it up slightly then gradually reduce the amount you are using??
I use little lock and lock pots to take it to work in, or jars, anything really!!

I'm a newbie here, but I was given 2 easiyo pots for going to work with but I've also put the yo into clean jam jars, which I find easier for keeping in the fridge as the tub you make it in is too big for mine.Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0

Can anyone tell me how long I can keep made yoghurt in the fridge and can i make it with the UHT milk if you are starting with the berry mix flavour and if so how old should the yoghurt be? I know this is a lot of questions but I don't want to have to buy more sachets if I can do it another way. Thanks in advance.

My Easiyo arrived this morning (ebay bargain of course) and I have some live yogurt and UHT milk in there. Looking forward to my own yogurt now instead of spending vast amounts per week on shop bought.
I have frozen the rest of the live yogurt I bought to use as a starter in an ice cube tray. Does anyone know how long it can stay in the freezer for?
Thanks to everyone who posted on this thread, its been really useful and helpful to me. Its also green as I won't have to recycle all those plastic yogurt pots now too!Save £12k in 2012 no.49 £10,250/£12,000

After having read this thread more than once, I finally bit the bullet and bought a yogurt maker, a Rosemary Conley one from ebay.
Had a go last night and it seems to have made yogurt BUT it looks a bit like baby sick  I know it sounds awful but its the only way to describe it.. looks sort of almost grainy in texture. It tastes ok and I strained the excess liquid off because I wanted thick Greek style yogurt, and although as I say it tastes ok, the appearance is very offputting.
I used 2 tablespoons Greek yogurt as starter and it was very fresh with long expiry date and some longlife milk, again long long expiry date. prefer not to have to use powdered milk too if possible but would do if it was the only way to get the results that everyone else seems to be getting...
Any ideas what was wrong? When I strained it there was an awful lot of liquid too.. aprox 200mls just yellowy coloured liquid. Is there normally that much if you strain it?I love this site! :j0
