  • We have just been onto the P&O website to book a trip using the offer. We fulfilled all the criteria the dates we wanted were available however their website was quoting a staggering £140 return for a car and two adults and 3 children. Not the £20 as advertised.

When I was there the sainsburys was closing early I think it was 1hr before it should do, it seemed that no one visited it. Auch was busy..

Make sure the discount code is remaining if you are clicking forward and back, it tends to go if you click back on your browser

  • We got the £20 day return and six bottles of wine when we went on the 13th Feb. The weather in France was great (as it was in the UK) so we had a wonderful lunch overlooking Boulogne beach followed by a sunny walk and the usual shopping in Calais.

Thanks MSE! We arrived a bit early on the outward leg and P&O kindly put us on an earlier crossing icon14.gif

You must have been lucky with the weather. When we go to Calais on a day trip, the weather there's always cold, windless and overcast. I've made my own name for that kind of weather; "Calais-days". It must be a coincidence with similar weather everytime we go there. We usually do our yearly trip between November and February, when the ferry companies have cheap deals to fill up their vessels. P&O seems to be pretty good about letting you go on an earlier departure. We've done that on a few occations.I'm not sure if that's the case the other way around. I'm curious, has anyone been given, free of charge, a later departure if they missed the one on their booking??
  • Thanks, we had a great day. If you have problems booking online, be persistent, it took me a while, every time I got to the bit where you pay it changed from £20 to £140, but I kept reloading the pages and it finally worked.

I guess the way to do it for people wanting to book for a week's skiing (us included!) would be as someone else suggested to book the return with Seafrance or someone? Presumably P&O don't bother checking that you actually come back? It'd just be if you tried to use a 2nd day return a week later with them that you'd have trouble?

Just looked at going out on a Friday night which I can get for £20 + free wine and then a single with Seafrance from Calais to Dover is €60 or about £46, so all in all about £66 return, which is still cheaper than the normal return and you're getting the free wine!

Has this worked for anyone, i have a booking to go next friday with no intention of using the return ferry back, infact i only have 15mins to get off the ferry and board another back to dover. I am worried and was going to cancel my booking, whats the most i could be charged thanks

Didn't you just find you "missed" your return ferry?? Silly you, you'd made a mistake on the times and ended up coming back with Sea France? Think that's going to be my plan!

Reminds me of a trip to celebrate mothers' day, and avoid the problem of special rates in the UK.
Someone had forgotten their passport:rolleyes: so we arrived late for Sea France and were allowed on the next crossing.
I think the clerks have a certain amount of lee way, though the tunnel does not have a good reputation on that score.

    Harry.
  • Just an update on their £20 offer. It does seem to take several attempts to get the website to quote £10 each way. Try the various option book now boxes to see what happens - I had all sorts of different prices quotes, £30 return, £140 return.
Also the availabilty checker does not tally with what's actually available on the £10 each way offer so you might find the system quotes £10 out but £70 to come back - just change the times to get £10.
    I booked 19/3 10.05 out and 17.30 back.

French workers are good at "putting the boot in", when it comes to disputes.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/kent/7270473.stm

"Motorists are advised to avoid the area unless their journey is absolutely necessary".

A SeaFrance statement said: "SeaFrance Dover-Calais Ferries is experiencing disruptions to service due to industrial action by on board officers".

"SeaFrance is currently booking all passengers onto alternative crossings with other operators to ensure passengers reach their destination with minimal disruption".

"SeaFrance is working to end the action as soon as possible and passengers with reservations can call SeaFrance on 0871 22 22 500 for further information."

If this continues, people with the cheepy tickets, not just the Sea France customers, may be told not to bother turning up.

Check web sites and local news etc.

    Harry

I can remember P&O having a dispute, when it bought two state of the art German owned ferries only to find the crews were Chinese on sub minimum wage rates.
