I just tried to book a day trip on the 14th feb and the price came up at £70 any ideas?

    Try http://www.speedferries.com/, beckah.
  • Do you have to have 9 people go, can't there just be 2?

    ". . . . You can take a car and up to 9 people . . ."

All the ferry companies and Eurotunnel have very similar wording in their T&Cs regarding using 2 cheap day tickets instead of buying the full return. If you fail to make the booked return crossing, they will charge you the difference between what you paid and the cheapest one way ticket available on the day of travel. Works out very costly.

You are right, boats. It is an absolute con. There is no justified reason why a crossing should be more costly if one stays away (say) two weeks instead of a day. The service provided is exactly the same.

    They are all at it.

Has anyone ever tried booking 2 days out but coming back a week later. ie book a cheap day say saturday and another the following friday, so that you can get a weeks crossing cheap
    Thx in advance

I did this years ago when the Sun was offering £1 day return tickets for a car and occupants.

We bought two tickets and went skiing for a week!! On the return, the check in lady looked us up and down (panda eyes from sunglasses, tans, skis on the roof etc...!) and said "mmmmm.... I don't seem to have a record of you coming over this morning" I gave her a big grin and said "ummm, don't you? that's odd" and she smiled and booked us in.

She knew exactly what we'd done, but kindly turned a blind eye. Perhaps they've 'wised up' to it since then (this was about 15 years ago) and possibly the systems aren't so easily over ridden.
  • With the BOGOF meal voucher, is it just one meal free?

I think that it is only valid in the food court rather than the restaurant and only on the outward journey?

Therefore as there are 4 of us, we would pay for 3 meals and get only one free.

Anyone happen to know how much they charge for breakfast?
Mortgage and totally Debt Free as of December 2008.

    boy does it feel good!
Thanks MSE for all the tips and advice
  • We did this too with £1 daytrip ticket from a newspaper and ended up having to pay then £45 for a 3 day return which was the cheapest way to do it. I have since found tho that if you have relatives in France with same last name and you can borrow eg an electric bill you can get a day return back no problem

Thanks very much, this is a great offer :-)

    Booked today with no problems.

Stop moaning you lot!!!! This is a DAY TRIP offer for just twenty quid AND you get six bottles of quality wine AND a BOGOF meal, what more do you want - it's a bargain!

    Cheers

Blame the computer system for the c0ck-up ;)

Seriously though I know an Anglo French couple, who nearly ended up in court (I think it was Seafrance: no sense of humour) I think these days you would have to be clever enough to book the return with another company, perhaps the Danish organisation operating out of Boulogne?

The breakfasts are pretty much the same price as you would expect to pay if you went to Tescos. Plus the ingredients used in the International Food Court are the same as those used in Langans where a breakfast can set you back about £12.
