  • I just got a call from retentions again (my contract expires 28th Jan).

All they offered me was 500 mins 100 texts and a Nokia 6120 for the magical price of 15 pounds a month for life.

I asked for the special prices as you do and he denied they existed....lol

As you may guess i told him thanks but no thanks.

I await the next call to this saga.I,ll keep you all updated if i get anything worth mentioning.

Last year at the end of my 3 contract I gave 30 days notice. I think they rang twice with poor deals and by then I had found a good vodafone deal ( with Cool New Mobile ! ). On the day the contract finished they rang to offer 500 mins and 100 texts for an 18 month contract for a total cost of £18. They put a huge credit on my account and I will pay the £18 in the final month. By then of course I had taken the new contract but it's a brillant spare phone with all those minutes. I also have another 3 contract for my daughter and I won't be so hasty to act when that ends.

    Hi all,

Have been reading the posts very keenly as my contract is soon to expire.

I have been with three for 2 years now. My contract expires on 18th Feb. I will ring Three on the 18th of Jan and ask for a PAYG conversion from 18th Feb. Depending on how things progress I will then 2 weeks later ask for my PAC code. I will keep you updated of my progress and what deals i am offered.

    1 & 2
The phone I really want is the new N95 8GB on a 300 tariff. See 1.
or If I get a PAYG and join as a new customer and use the £60 introduce a friend thing (£30 for me and £30 for misses). See 2.

    3 & 4
or I can tone down and go for the N73 on a 300 tariff. See 3 and 4 (if I leave them and rejoin).

    5 & 6
or can get really MSE and go for the Sony K800i. See 5 and 6.

    1) N95 + 300mins = £30.00 PM over 18 months: £540 TOTAL
    2) N95 + 300mins = £26.67 PM over 18 months: £480 TOTAL

    3) N73 + 300mins = £18.00 PM over 18 months: £324 TOTAL
    4) N73 + 300mins = £14.67 PM over 18 months: £264 TOTAL

    5) K800i + 300mins = £15.00 PM over 18 months: £270 TOTAL
    6) K800i + 300mins = £11.67 PM over 18 months: £210 TOTAL

While I have been writing this - it seems that Option 6 is defo the one to go for. I like gadgets - but only at a bargain. I am going to aim to budget myself for the best deal at £15 MAX per month.

I will keep you guys updated on my progress and let you know how i get along. What would help is if you spot any deals from other networks that are better than above - let me know - that way i have a better negotiating stance.

    Thanks

    P

I suggested in a earlier post asking for PAYG then a few days later requesting your PAC code. However, when I tried this myself 3 wouldn't allow and said if they gave me my PAC code it would cancel my request to go to PAYG.

Seems that the best route is to request the PAC code AFTER the PAYG conversion has been completed. This also gives 3 every opportunity to make the best offers (which tend to come in the last few days before your contract expires)

Not defending them, but I understand that it is technically impossible to let you give 30 days notice and also have a PAC (on all networks) as they result in the same outcome.

    1. Give notice, 30 days later your contract ends.
    2. Use the PAC (which has 30 days to use it) - 7 days after you use it, your contract ends. If you don't use it, you stay on contract. As a result, if you want to end your contract and have left it late (ie into the last 30 days) taking a PAC and transferring to a PAYG sim can be a quick way of ending your contract.

Given posts on the same topic since my message above, it appears that there is still misunderstanding. Three are not being awkward, I understand that this is the agreed protocol for all networks.

Request cancellation, followed later by PAC request - PAC request cancels cancellation and restarts 30 days period. If you don't use PAC, your contract remains, use PAC, contract ends 7 days later (though if this is before the end of your contract, you will still have to pay the remainder).

Request change to PAYG, later request PAC - PAC request cancels request to change to PAYG.

However, as the above says, if you change to PAYG and let it go through, you then have flexibility to PAC away at any point you like in the future.

guys - just be careful that when requesting transfer to payg - they ballsed up my transfer, doing it immediately. I'm finally getting it sorted 2 months later (but worth it for £5 a month for life retention). MAKE SURE they understand you ONLY want it to go payg AT THE END OF YOUR CONTRACTED PERIOD.

My son says he was told that he could not transfer his number to Payg when his contract finished.

Hi guys, wondering if you could give me some advice regarding my situation.

My contract expires in mid-March, however at the beginning of February I am leaving the country for 7 months on a round the world trip. This trip is on a very tight budget, to the point where I see pennies on the floor as a bonus! Therefore paying up the last month and a half of my phone contract is really an expense I would like to avoid.

I have no use for my three contract while away. I see the only real option of avoiding paying up my contract as renewing on a great deal, and then passing the great deal onto friends/family, thus removing the burden of the contract from myself. Either that, or getting a deal such as some mentioned, where eg, 11 months are free, so I can just leave my contract dormant at home.

I am within the upgrade window of the contract, and have been with three for over 2.5 years. So any advice on how to go about getting a good offer, or any options I have that I havent thought of would be much appreciated! I don't want/need a new handset, so hopefully that will help.

    Any thoughts would be wonderful!

    Tom.

Last year I took out the 100mins/100 texts free for 10/11 months offer from 3, that would've made it my 2nd year with Three (but due to new contracts, its more like 5).

My contract expires at the end of March so I thought I'd put the feelers out and see what offers were available to me now and when I called the cancellations team, I was offered the following:

    400 mins
    250 txt
    25 video calls
    25 mms
    £5 download
    Nokia 6500 slide

for £35 a month. No half price line rental, no other special offers which I thought was rubbish. So am going to wait another month then convert to PAYG and see if I can get something worth staying with Three for.

What is everyone else's experience of coming off the 100mins /100 txt offer that was around last year?

    Did you not cancel then?

I have already given my 30 days notice - will I be able to convert to PAYG during the last few days of this?
