I phoned today regarding an 18-month contract that has just come to an end and the best they would offer me is £10-a-month for a SIM-only 12-month contract giving 300 minutes or texts, 5000 3-to-3 minutes, and 2GB internet. My Mum got exactly the same contract for only £5 recently and I have another £5-a-month contract with Three that came with a free handset (but no internet). I haggled but they wouldn't go below £10. Is it worth asking for my PAC and are they then likely to call back with a £5 offer?

Did you tell them that you knew someone who had a good £5 deal? Wait and see if they ring you within 48 hours; if not, bite the bullet and ring again. If they won't budge ask to be put through to cancellations so that you can start the process of terminating the contract. May or may not work.

Yes, but they said £5 deals are not available and that £5 must have been a "special promotion" that they cannot offer. I was speaking to the cancellations people and saying I want my PAC initially. I would give notice and wait for them to call back, but my contract has already served its time. Looking at the Three website I can get arguably better deals for £10 than they offered me! (300 mins, 3000 texts, 1GB data).

I've asked for my PAC code and they said they'd ring back in 48 hours with that. I wait to see whether they give me the code or pull a cat out of a bag with a £5 deal. :undecided

It doesn't matter if your contract is done, phone them back and tell them you want nothing to do with 3 ever again and give your months notice to cancel your contract. They'll try and fob you off with rubbish offers, i don't think these people don't have the authority to offer you a £5 deal.

They offered me a Nokia 5230 and a £110 Comet voucher if I take a £12-a-month 24-month contract (300 minutes/texts, 500MB internet). I declined that and after debating it for ages they sent me a PAC code.

Got fed up trying to get 3 to give me a good deal on the blackberry, so took the following deal for HTC desire

    2000 mins
    5000 texts
    5000 3-3 calls
    unlimited net (proper unlimited)
    24 month contract

for £28 per month (know i could have properly knocked a couple of quid off if i'd haggled more) but managed to get this deal in the shop and they threw in a screen protector, a case thing (kind of like a protecter for back and sides) and a phone sock and meant i could take the phone there and then and deal with a proper person, not someone on the phone which leaves you wondering if you will actually get what they've said!

They also halved the price of my mobile broadband (saving me £8.00 per month) and also 'unofficially' suggested that i cancel my broadband as i can use the unlimited net with my package to tether to my laptop!

All in all im pretty happy with that, and the HTC seems a very good phone.

Don't think you saved £8 - what you got is available on line for £30 a month. All depends on how much patience you have. I sat on the phone for ages before getting what i wanted, but if you feel £28 a month is worth paying, then you are quite right to just save any hassle and sign up in the shop - my HTC desire (absolutely love the phone!) came through the post last Monday as promised and my letter confirmed the price i would be paying the same day.

sorry didnt make it very clear - i saved £2 per month on my phone contract, and another £8.00 per month on the contract on my broadband dongle (which i also get through three.) So a total saving of £10.00 per month. So although the shop wouldnt budge too much on the price for the phone contract, i saved money by them halving my monthly fee for the broadband, as a loyal customer discount (hmm) so all in all very happy.

Plus if the unlimited net on phone works ok as a modem too, i'll save myself another £8.00 per month in the future, when i cancel the dongle account.

I've heard this deal offered alot (HTC desire on the one plan for £28 a month, 24 month contract) but I'm sure you can get this cheaper online:

£30 a month for this plan on 3 website
£106 cashback on quidco for signing up to 1 plan
    = £25.58 per month for 24 months.
This is obviously better than the £28 per month that 3 are offering.

    Am I missing something?
