  • Would they do that kind of deal on a sim only for as little as that do you think?

There are lots of us that have SIM only deals around that level. Mine is £5.53 (£20 loyalty discount and Internet Max free addon).

Ask for a loyalty discount and ask for free internet - you may get a cheapo handset. Also ask about contract length - I got the choice of 12 or 18 months. Like anyone would choose 18 months over 12 but they did ask...

I've said before speaking to retentions is like playing chicken. You never know if they are going to come back with a better offer!

I gave my months notice last week and got my first offer today. Told them i wanted to keep my £10 loyalty discount and for £15 a month want the text 500 plan with HTC desire (currently £25). He said could do wildfire for £16 a month or for £8 a month get 500 mix and match, 300 mins 3 to 3 and 500gb allowance and free candybar sony ericsson featuring 2 MP camera. Told him politely but firmly that didn't suit my needs and no thank you. He said he'd speak to his boss and see what they could come up with. Seems promising so far.......
Phoned back today to offer Desire HD 500 mix and match, 2000 3 to 3, 500mb web for £21 a month. Decent price but don't want to pay as much as that a month plus HD size is pretty big. Politely declined again......

My outcome so far, I have 4 contracts

    1. HTC Desire, 500x, 125txt, 2gb £15/mnth + £52 handset price, 18mth
    2. Rolling contract 500x, 100txt, 2gb, £10/mth, 12 mnth
    3. Sim only 300x, 300txt, 1gb, £10, 12mnth
    4. Sim only 300x, 300 txt, 1gb, £10, 12mnth

I think I might look at 3 & 4 again as this is a current web contract, so not sure if getting a better deal

My Mum was offered exactly the same £5 deal last Friday, .

According to retentions today, that is not available any more. Someone is telling untruths, and it is probably not MarkBargain!

I've kept my handset for nearly three years. Time for an upgrade. I'm after GalaxyS or desire HD. They tried to sell me desire at the standard website price. No deal, I think. It is cheaper for me to let my contract roll forward and buy the handset sim free.

It is, as was said above, a game of chicken. I can wait.

I don't think they are getting good value (or more likely sales commission) on the Galaxy S at the moment - they were very reluctant to offer me one.

They can definitely do the Desire HD for £25/month - it was the best (and only deal) they offered me. Don't know if they would've offered me a last minute deal - used my PAC on Friday and as of today my number is on T-mobile, I've got a HTC Desire for £15/month (standard, not HD) and I never need to speak to Three's call centre ever again

Did you have to pay anything towards the htc desire?

I paid £59 upfront for the phone and the £15/month is a straight deal (i.e. no cashback or line rental redemption).

However, my girlfriend has just gone for a Dial a Phone deal which has just appeared for the Desire on Orange - no upfront charge, 300mins, unlimited texts, 500MB data and an effective cost of £14.90/month. However, this one is a line rental redemption offer on a standard £25/month charge. If you're reasonably organised and can handle sending in your statements it looks a good deal.

My girlfriend was also offered the Desire HD by Three at £25/month yesterday (no upfront charge) but decided against it.
  • I have decided on the Nokia E5 but 3 won't offer me any loyalty discount, when I asked about going on to sim only, they would only offer me £15 pcm for 500 min, 5000 txt, 1gb data. When I asked about any other deals available they wouldn't budge - kept repeating that I didn't want a blackberry (rubbish camera) or touchscreen (fat fingers ha ha) but what did they keep offering me - SE Xperia X10 or a B/B Pearl. Asked for my PAC code and strangely "my signal" kept going at this point and the CS asst couldn't hear me. I phone back and as soon as I get to the part that I would like my code "my signal" goes again - strange that!

Not sure what to do now, the E5 covers everything I am looking for and the price isn't too bad. I kinda wish I hadn't found this thread coz I would have just taken it without thinking. Suppose I need to decide soon - my old phone is dying quickly.

Did you select the menu option for "leaving 3" when you phoned up? Speak to them and if you're in the last month of your contract and they really believe you will leave, then they may offer you something better. The Nokia E5 is £149.99 in their PAYG store (£12 Quidco/Topcashback too), so why not ask for a £5 SIM only deal and then buy the phone yourself? If they won't offer you the £5 deal say you'll leave then, and they might relent or phone you back later with the £5 deal.
